Oh, yes, look to Washington. Looks like the Rotterdam Board is taking a play out of the Obama Handbook For Success!

This is outrageous!  I was a confidential secretary for many years and my salary was never that high.  I worked for many NYS appointees, but because I was a civil servant I couldn't be fired because I was in the wrong party.  I always put the good of the organization first.  A good secretary runs the office and keeps things going so I know how important that position can be.  Kim, Lynn and whoever else worked for Steve were excellent.  Why were they replaced?

Now a non-resident comes in with a salary that is probably higher than the town planner.  That's just plain wrong on so many levels.

Why didn't they go after Surprise first or did they?  Maybe they are slipping him some nice pills in his coffee???

You can lay off all the secretaries you like. That won't change the inherent structural issue of budget growth. To cut expense, a business man needs to find where most of the expense is. Turning off the lights and lowing the stat' won't solve it. Dumping a handful of clerks and such makes for slower service and little savings. Who gets the salaries, the benies', uses the gas, insurance, etc? That has to be determined. However my tax bill showed a county tax more than twice as high as my town and highway, and I am still trying to figure out what my household gets for the misnamed "State and Federal Mandate Fee" which IS the county tax bill. When will there be a tea party about that gang? ...curiously I suspect never.

GB ~ fortunately for you and me ~ we can thank the NNTP (our local tea party)!

Mainly ~ when your buddy Joe Surhada abandoned the residents in District 4 and started supporting taxing districts during a recession ~ Brad Littlefield came to the rescue!

It was the NNTP that opposed the creation of a new tax district ~ one that Surhada supported ~ and it was Littlefield that aggressively dictated the discussion on lower taxes.

Surhada is an empty shirt and nothing of what he used to be.  He has lost all credibility and his very poor showing in the most recent election says it all.  He lost to a virtual no name in Matt Martin and received less votes than Mike O’Connor ~ someone the GOP refused to support even after he won the primary.

Now GB tells us that Surhada owns land north of here and may be relocating ~ honestly GB ~ tell Joe thanks and good luck.   Surhada’s contributions to the good of the community have run their course, now he’s just a bitter, angry, self-serving, blame everyone else ~ WAIT:  sounds like I am describing a Democrat so I’ll stop right there.

GB ~ maybe you need to have a frank discussion with Joe ~ reality is that he has no vision, no leadership skills, no excitement, no energy, no following, no organization, nothing.  Maybe a quiet exit to Saratoga County is in order.  Look to guys like Brad, Brian, Mike and John ~ they are the leaders of today and tomorrow.

I've heard that even Tom has moved on from backing Surhada.

As an afterthought ~ GB ~ you should consider running for office.  You espouse conservative thinking and often make sense.  You actually make good points ~ despite your affection for Surhada ~ we could use someone like you that might be able to see the forest through the trees.

Felipe--no need to attack Suhrada.  He is out of office now.  Why denigrate someone who took on public service and his time has ended.  Why shouldn't he be a bit angry?  What help did he get from the party.  Tom hasn't moved on.  He's just politically impotent.

Blaming someone else is NOT a Democratic trait.  But God knows the Dems have a lot to blame in the previous administrations locally and nationally.  Enter NNTP but they didn't rescue anyone.  They still have a lot of work to do to catch up.  Felipe--sorry you are too hard on JS.

With this latest 'expensive secretary maneuver', the dems are already off on the wrong foot. Perhaps that is the same foot they just shot themselves in.

Ally, perhaps felipe was a bit hard on JS.....but one must admit that the above is questionable for a conservative. I don't think that anyone would dispute the fact that JS has paid his dues in public office. But this is a new political arena...things are changing. Can he?

It will be interesting to see in the near future what JS does. Will he continue to support the present leadership in the rep party? Or will he join others and try to change it? Time will tell I guess!

You're right ~ Surhada please accept my apology.

You actually make some good points ~ not sure how much the party contributed towards his election ~ money, mailers, signs, literature, volunteers ~ that would actually be reflective of how much Tom & Jerry were really into JS winning.

So back to this secretary issue. Can Kim collect unemployment? What was the reason for termination? Will unemployment accept those reasons so she can collect?

I work for the private sector..THANK GOD! And if my boss laid me off, the reasons would have to be due to lack of work or financial difficulties. Or out and out fire me for some proven illegal behavior!  Clearly not because the supervisor can't read/write well enough for the job. OR that the supervisor doesn't have a clue about this position. OR because it is a friend of a friend. OR because it is just plain old politics. Clearly  not reason enough to lay off one and hire another at $10,000 more!!!! WTH?

Sounds like a rock solid labor dispute to me.

I think I heard a gun shot....must be the dems shooting themselves in the other foot!!!

These are all very valid questions, she was told her job was being "eliminated", but it wasn't, and it obviously wasn't financial as they are paying
this non-resident over $12,000 more.  I can only give my personal and of course biased opinion, it's political and personal.  Can she collect
unemployment?  We'll have to see what the Department of Labor says (or an attorney).
