9 Schenectady teachers get national certification BY MICHAEL GOOT Gazette Reporter
Nine teachers from the Schenectady City School District — including six from the high school — officially joined the ranks of National Board certified teachers on Wednesday. At the high school, business teacher Diane Allegro, science teacher Leigh Feguer, English teachers Sara Kramer and Meghan Libertucci, technology teacher Thomas Patterson and guidance counselor Jeanne Myers all achieved the distinction. Other district teachers included Patrice Barrette, a reading teacher at Pleasant Valley elementary; Emily Dearstyne, a librarian at Pleasant Valley; and Jean Inzinna, a remedial reading teacher at Central Park International Magnet School. To achieve certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, these teachers must undertake a study program in which they create portfolios of their lesson plans and student work samples, videotape themselves teaching, write self-assessments and exercises about how to teach the subject and undergo peer review. District officials have said that the process can take between 200 and 400 hours and up to three years to complete. .......................>>>>..................>>>>................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01403&AppName=1
