Greek eatery
Marv Cermack

El Divino, an Italian restaurant at the Chrisler Avenue shopping plaza that went under earlier this year, may be replaced by a Greek eatery called Karamella's.

"Others were interested in leasing from us, but we are now seriously thinking about putting our own restaurant in there,'' said Angelo Menagias. He and his brother, Jerry, own the strip mall.

The Menagias brothers are best known as the owners of the Blue Ribbon Restaurant/Diner, a popular Schenectady spot for more than three decades. They also recently purchased the former Olde Homestead Restaurant in Burnt Hills.

Angelo Menagias said plans still in the works call for his wife, Alexandria, and son Philip to operate Karamella's. "We're thinking in terms of a menu with real old-fashioned Greek tastes. Authentic Greek restaurant fare is scarce in the Capital Region,'' he said.

Regarding the Olde Homestead, he said the building is so badly deteriorated that demolition is inevitable. Initial plans to open a restaurant on the property are on hold because of the unstable economy.

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
