ROTTERDAM Republican Della Villa may resign Town Board BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.
Michael Della Villa, the sole remaining Republican on the Rotterdam Town Board as of next year, may resign his position because of increasing travel demands of his private business. The first-term board member said his job as a consultant with RockIT Science Solutions has required him to venture out of state with increasing frequency. Though not committing to a firm decision, he said he’s considering his options, which include leaving town office. “I’m out of town every week,” he said Friday. “It’s getting kind of crazy.” Supervisor Steve Tommasone and the all-Republican Town Board would be tasked with naming and approving his replacement unless Della Villa resigns after the reorganization meeting scheduled for after the New Year. Della Villa, who also serves on Schalmont’s Board of Education, said he would make a final decision in the “very near future.” There are two years remaining on Della Villa’s term. Any replacement chosen by either the Republicans or the incoming administration — an even split between Democrats and Conservatives — would have to run for office in both 2010 and again in 2011 for a full four-year term. ............................>>>>..........................>>>>....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01300&AppName=1

“We need someone who has not served on the town council before,” he [Tommasone] said.
The Republicans should seriously consider appointing Michael O'Connor if he is interested in the position. He has not served on the Town Board in the past. He has strong support from the community. Appointing Michael would be a first step in rebuilding the Republican party and bring many of the supporters of the No New Tax Party back to the party. Does the Republican party leadership have the vision and the wisdom necessary to come to such a reasoned decision? |

I am in agreement with Brad...this is an opportunity for the Republicans to salvage their reputation. |

I'm in agreement too, but I understand Michael declined. Can we convince him to reconsider? As a Republican, I had suggested his name when it was rumored Mike DV needed to resign because he could not devote the time necessary to do a good job as a councilperson. I think Mike O'Connor would well represent Republicans in Rotterdam.
Brad, please help convince him. I would definitely help his campaign this fall.
I also understand that Gerard Parisi has been interviewed. He too would make a good replacement for Mike DV if the Dems really want to work as a team and forget the silly season shenanigans. |

Will he resign from the School Board too? Talk about old news. Michael O'Connor {as the top REP vote getter} should be offered this first. If he refused then Surhada or Salamone. |

... but I understand Michael declined.
I have not been approached regarding the possible opening, nor do I expect to be. I certainly can't "decline" something never offered...just so the record is absolutely straight. |

Why would the Republicans approach the person who knocked out my friend Stanley from his seat to sit on the new reform board? That would be just plain stupid. I liken that to putting John Mertz back on the board. Two peas in pod.
To put anyone in associated with this last campaign and there would be a revolt. Losers should never be put in office against the will of the people. Hang on Mr DellaVilla, you can learn alot more in fundemental good government from the new board then you did under Steve Tomassone John Mertz and Joe Signore.
Pretty sad the Republicans are forcing you out of office so they can make trouble, not peace. (John Silva said to say hello and hang in there. He says you were one of the good guys.) |

huskyhowls:
I just called and spoke with Michael re: this topic.
Michael reiterated to me that he has not been approached by anyone about the potential vacancy. Michael expressed interest in the opportunity and said that he would not rule it out.
I think that much could be accomplished by the Republican party in restoring their presence and influence in the Town of Rotterdam and in Schenectady County if they offered this position to him. It would send a signal to the disaffected Republican voters and to the independents who supported the No New Tax Party that the Republican party is reaching out to those who support fiscal conservatism. There is a move afoot at the national level to move the Republican party to the right and to return to the conservative principles espoused by Reagan.
So, it's their move. I hope that those responsible for making this decision will consider the consequences of their decision, whatever it may be. |

Hahaha..."The new reform board". That's funny!

Brian McGarry would be the best choice to fill that position. He is a registered Conservative, with true fiscally conservative values. He garnered 17% of the vote in his run for Supervisor. To me, that is an example of his ability to draw supporters from Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives, and the NNTP. Based off of the votes he received this year, a Republican endorsement next election would pretty much guarantee retention of that seat. |

I agree that Brian McGarry would also be a great selection to fill the seat if Michael DellaVilla steps down. The residents of the Town of Rotterdam would be well served by either of these gentlemen being seated on the town board. |

Brian McGarry would be an excellent choice-but for that to happen MV needs to hang on until after the 1st. It makes sense for a fiscal CONS to get that seat. |

Why not John Paolino or Diane Marco? They are both fiscal conservatives. I say one of these two know a lot more about the town than Mr McGarry.
I don't think Mr Tommasone will be appointing Mr McGarry didn't he help Mr DelGallo with the debate issue? I think Mr DellaVilla stays put and collects the check. |

DellaVilla probably needs to resign if his private business is that demanding. As for JP or DM, no way! We don't need any reruns. McGarry or O'Connor would do a fine job. |

The best quote is where Steve T says it's important to have a full board on Jan 1. LOL! Mike needs to resign now... He can't wait a couple more weeks. It is so important to have him for the last two weeks of the year for the 0 meetings he will attend. Slimy. Very slimy! Yea, I thought he was a decent guy too. Looks like he is no different. I say put GP in there to "watch over the town"!!! |
