In the spirit of Schenectady's Dutch heritage, Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas), astride his white horse, will make an appearance near the Trustco Bank, 1620 Upper Union St, Schenectady on Saturday, December 5 from 11 a.m.-12 noon. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras to take photos of their children with Sinterklaas and on his horse and join in the Sidewalk Parade lead by Sinterklaas and at 11:30 a.m.
A simple children's craft involving decorating crowns will be set up near the Upper Union Street Christmas Tree at Trustco Bank 1620 Union Street. In Holland, members of the Dutch royal family are among the first to greet Sinterklaas when he arrives in Amsterdam; the crowns are symbolic of this tradition.
Many additional activities are included in this holiday celebration. Further information is available at http://www.upperunionbid.org.
