Has anyone else driven over the railroad tracks that cross Burdeck Street lately? They are awful. You really can't drive over 5 MPH when you cross them. |

When were they last replaced/repaired? Seems like it wasn't that long ago. |

I don't know exactly when, but it wasn't that long ago. I thought that they would have fixed it when they repaved the road. |

fixed recently but......
it has been like that for over 40 years, Putnam rd also same deal the RR has more power than the state -----good luck getting them to fix anything same deal in montgomery county all crossings
maybe an Op-Tech Truck filled with waste could spill its load there DEC could find the RR at fault
forcing a total removal of all soil underneath
and the crossing being rebuilt on a real foundation

Most crossings here in NY are worse than other areas - mostly because of cold/heat heave .. but your right, for a newer crossing, it's pathetic. I came over them today with my new truck, ouch. |

Is it the towns responsibility to contact the rail company? Perhaps we should call the rail company ourselves. Or perhaps start sending them the repair bills for our vehicles. It's the worst!!! |

Troublesome train tracks could lead to calamity
How many more years are drivers in Rotterdam going to have to drive over the roller coaster ride known as the CSX railroad tracks on Burdeck Street, near Princetown Road, before it’s repaired? Along with the stress it’s obviously putting on vehicles going over them, a defi nite safety situation has developed. Wait until a vehicle drops a wheel, or breaks a tie rod and quits in the middle [of the tracks]. This crossing is very busy, with both vehicle and train traffic. Fix it, please!

The tracks are horrific....and repairs for alignments and anything else from the "shake, rattle and roll" experience needs to be addressed to CSX or the Town.....and so far as the Town goes....get rid of vacant buildings or charge rent to the owners.....it's a shame...the Town is so split up....there is different zoning everywhere....and it makes the traffic horrific...poor planning....and it's still going on....it's all about power and money.....you got a vacant piece of land ???? put up a building....no matter where or what kind....now Burdeck Street is going to be another mess with apartments going up.....how about building more for the people who can't afford condos and expensive apartments...this Town is not the people's Town anymore....idiots are running it... FIX THE TRACKS .....DOES ANYONE HEAR THIS ??? |

The rail elevations do not, have not changed. It is the road elevations that are too high which create the "roller coaster" effect. The rail line probably "owns" the crossing with the Town/County having easement rights for the road. I believe Burdeck St. is a County Rd. so it is probably their responsibility. The fix is quite simple. Precast concrete sections can be placed adjacent to the rubber mats next to the rails at the same height. The blacktop roadway needs to be removed to a foundation level for the precast concrete section. These sections will not heave like blacktop. This type of precast construction is done all the time for bridge decking. They could fix one side one day, and fix the other the next day. Precast units eliminate the need for concrete curing and can be put in service immediately. |

They were supposedly fixed last year. It was great for about a month............then back to 'tracks as usual'. |

Last night I had the opportunity to pass over those tracks as a passenger in a vehicle. I rarely if ever travel over the tracks because they are so bad. I noted concrete pads parallel to the tracks at the same elevation. The blacktop in between the two sets of rails, and the blacktop approaching the concrete and rails are all too high. County needs to mill down those heights blacktop heights. |

Nah, it would take pressure from Rotterdam to fix that. They only need to grind/mill the blacktop down, but that's probably a major issue. FDG and the Town Board has to contact the County and ask them to fix that. I'll bet if you put an Automatic Traffic Counter across Burdeck St., you would find it's pretty heavily traveled. It would seem as though someone with common sense could recognize the heights aren't even close. It's not like making something level is rocket science! |

the problem with the burdeck crossing is
its description by the town admin when requesting repair combines the words "yonder", "right near" and "a right far piece." or "just down the road" which causes problems with the 'urban' folk who are not good at "rural" distance
maybe it is the track is "level" and the road is "crowned" |
