This was emailed to us with Mr. Day's permission to post it here:
Quoted Text
I was in Dom's Barbershop Curry Rd Rotterdam today. Dom is president of Money I mean Moh School Board. We touched on 2009 elections, Dom has his views, I have mine. We did agree things going to get worst with regard to O'Bama administration. I stated that the Moh electric billboard sign on Curry Rd piss's me off, my tax dollars a waste. Dom point out the sign money came from State grant. I asked Dom if grant money came from God or tax payer. I asked Dom if State Ed called him up, told him to open window, stick his head out & slam window on head, causing his head to swell & he would of course become smarter. He said no, I ask why no on grant money. Of course again if we do not accept it will go elsewhere. Assuming one accepts the concept of grant money (I do not) why not pay for oil to heat school or new tires on school busses, that way the tax payer would SORT OF get something out of it. Greed & ego's of school district drive their agendas. On this matter of Rotterdam budget (all towns & cities & counties) I stated the only way to make cut to hold line on taxes is to cut services & payrolls (layoffs). Dom said no one wants to make a sacrifice. I told Dom the budget issue is like a lifeboat. If life boat holds 30 & 50 are swimming around to get on board, do you save the 30 or drown the 50? In New York State we have chosen economic death over life. We 'respect' life in the womb but not when that life grows up & starts paying taxes. Edmond Day

Some have voted against accepting 'free money' for years, stating that once the money is gone from the grant, the county or town or whichever entity, will have the cost to pick up for themselves. Nothing new to note, Mr. Day, not so clever. You should have realized there was a political leader who voted against those things. You are a day late and a dollar short again. You voted against him. |

Bitched about it as the perfect example of the waste of "free money from the state" for years. Furthermore LOOK INSIDE THE CAMPUS and see the stupid LED signs that can be programmed to read "Strawberry festival next week!" and "Spring Break coming soon!" and "Johnny Jones Student of the Week!"
HOW THE HELL DID KIDS LEARN ANYTHING BEFORE 'BIG EDUCATION' DECIDED CRAP LIKE THIS WAS NEEDED TO HELP THEM LEARN????????????????????????????????????????????????? Sad to think that the best minds America ever produced were educated in the one room school house or were educated at home, somewhere on a frontier. |

LOL! How about received a 9% raise! Or Thank You for approving another record budget! Highest SAT scores go to home schooled kids. Then Catholic schools. |

Being that the sign was bought with grant money, and yes it is still taxpayer monies, I don't see the problem here. Once the sign was installed and paid for, what is the yearly additional cost to the taxpayers? Electricity? I'm asking cause I really don't know.
Personally I think they are neat. They're informative, sharp looking, hi-tech (as hi tech as rotterdam can get) and gives the appearance that we have finally moved into the the 21st century.
Sure there are other issues plaguing our school systems, but I don't look at these signs as one of them. IMHO |

This all didn't happen overnight. This transition has been in the making for decades right before our eyes.....and we did nothing! |

Any and every dollar spent on education should satisfy the question: Will it help children learn better? This does not. Therefore the state education industry has funneled precious resources away from things that might help them learn better (books, educational materials) to something that does not. In my mind that is a wasteful crime, and a theft of taxpayer resources. |

It's a total waste of taxpayer money. What does a electronic sign have to do with improving education? This is a difficult concept for some to grasp. Thankfully Ira and Graham get it. |

Does that include the 'breakfast' that schools supply for kids? Will it help the kids learn better? How about lighted football fields? Will it help the kids learn better? How about radio's on buses? Will it help the kids learn better? How about the teacher's salaries and benefits? Is that helping the kids learn better? |

Most of the above do not, in large part, and are wasteful. But God forbid one is against it and he then becomes anti-child. |

I would believe that the bulk of the school costs to the taxpayers are, the salaries, benefits, buses and their maintenance, insurance coverage, heat/electric, books and learning material (maps, science labs, art supplies...etc..) Providing breakfast for kids, in my opinion, is nonsense! That is the parents responsibility. Radio's on buses, in my opinion, is nonsense! A lighted football field, in my opinion, should be paid for first by private donations/contributions. If there is monies left over in the budget....have at it! IMHO |

I agree......It should have gone to textbook size Kindles........although the teachers union would freak out as they are heavily invested in textbook/paper/print companies........JMHO |
