Metroplex plans ninth parking lot
Agency to pay SLOC $300,000 for land

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

The Metroplex Development Authority is adding to its parking empire and helping the Schenectady Light Opera Company at the same time.
Metroplex’s board on Wednesday approved a deal to purchase vacant land next to St. John the Baptist Church on Liberty Street for $300,000. It will convert the land, which is adjacent to the Franklin-Liberty parking lot, into its ninth parking lot.
The property is part of a parcel that SLOC will purchase from the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese.
The property consists of the former church, a rectory and a former church school. The church school was home to Bethesda House before it relocated.
SLOC plans to close on the purchase by the end of the year and open the theater in time for its 84th season in the fall of 2010. It plans to transform the 6,300-square-foot church building into a 300-seat theater and will lease part of the school to Capital Lyceum, a new private school opening there in fall of 2010...................>>>>.................>>>>.........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....805&ViewMode=GIF

It should be renamed the 'metroplex parking authority'.

Another outrage. St John's is completely surrounded by vacant parking lots at night. This amounts to another handout for nonprofits.

Death Ray admitted that parking lots and what he did best. And still loses millions of dollars? This nonsense must stop. The taxpayers can't afford these complete failures.
