Mary--he is incompetent and unethical--I am sure they will send him packing. BTW, I know other assessors who know him, and they were "surprised" that Surprise even got the job. Incompetent is enough to dump him. |

My understanding is the "Surprise" was a Tomassone find. I'm sure GP prepared that contract. Well with the money they save on dumping GP from TH they can buy out Surprise from is contract if they have to but he is an incompetent and rude bas**rd. He should be dismissed pronto. |

You will need a $320,000 check
Again what is the value?
Sorry, its not worth the effort just have the man follow the letter of the law good or bad.
We as a town need to get over the fact of life that the state mandates assessments
How about our chief of police requesting $121,340.00 per year???
Or our deputy chief of police requesting$101,405.00 per year
But we are lucky if they can bring in $500,000.00 in revenue with all the speeders on 890
Your police dept comes in at $6,528,995 in requests for 2010 out of at total tentative budget of $13,737,369 Now there is some value.
Make sure you get your moneys worth at the tax collection office and the town clerks office as they both collect a base salary of $50,350
Our comptroller requested $110,000.00 but is at 86,445.00 so far
Councilmembers are at an $10,000 a piece Supervisor at $13,000
Just remember that breaking of contracts creates billable hours for attoneys |

Mary Mary quite contrary. It is a term appointment. NOT a contract. There is no such thing as a term contract for a NYS Assessor. The salary of the assessor is set by the Town Board, no union protection, to boot. Mr Surprise is in DEEP and the wave of discontent with him hit the REPS like a tsunami on Election Day. He should do the right thing and crawl back into that hole in Columbia County he surfaced from, like the woodchuck hatchet man he proved to be! The most unprofessional appointment the Town has ever seen. IMHO |

Didn't we have a town employee that lost his state job for booking numbers and landed in our assessors office? We have had our share of unprofessional assessors. We didn't spend $750K because our assessors did a great job. |

Cicero--who cares about that? We are talking about Surprise. He is incompetent, arrogant and rude--bad combo when you are there to serve the people. Steve is responsible for this debacle. PDQ is correct. His offer should be "do you want to leave by the front door or out the back." Period. The End. That's all folks.. |

Many question Eunice's competency, and rightfully so. Go ahead Cal, play the senior card, and explain how she's so nice and everybody likes her. She screwed up my marriage license, and that was years ago. I'm not a doctor, but dementia or senile may explain her memory lapses. Under this "new" leadership, lets hope we don't return to the days of the bookmaker assessor. |
