SCHENECTADY
City history to be featured in holiday parade

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

Snippets of Schenectady County’s colorful history will be on display at Saturday’s 41st annual Gazette Holiday Parade, which begins at 5 p.m. from Schenectady County Community College.
In keeping with this year’s theme, “Celebrating Schenectady’s Bicentennial,” many floats in the parade will feature vignettes from the owner’s history, said Gail Kehn, vice president of visitor services for the Chamber of Schenectady County. The chamber organizes the parade. The Daily Gazette is one of the sponsors.
The Golub Corp.’s float will contain pictures and other memorabilia commemorating the company’s nearly centurylong history in Schenectady County and in the region, Kehn said. Golub is the parent company of Price Chopper supermarkets.
The Schenectady Fire Department will bring an antique fi re hose cart pulled by a horse, complete with a Dalmatian sitting in the seat. Time Warner’s float will feature television then and now, and the Central Park International Magnet School’s float will showcase an Erie Canal barge, Kehn said.
In all, some 100 marchers, fl oats and other units will participate in the two-hour-long parade, Kehn said. “That’s typical, right where we should be,” she said.
“When people come down, they get to see some really cool, cool things,” Kehn said. .................>>>>....................................>>>>..................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01100&AppName=1

"They get to see some cool, cool things". OMG! How embarrassing-this is what passes for a Chamber spokesman?

"Really cool, cool thangs"! Like the new County tourism center at the old Gillette House that the Chamber paid $1 for?  ROTFLMAO!! Only in Schenectady County!

Oh benny....some people will just continue to look at schenectady through those liberal rose colored glasses. I believe that they hand those glasses out free to the sheople.

For the rest of us.....we see and will continue to reveal the truth.

The apologists for taxpayer abuse need to get a life. Forget about the Gillette House fiasco sheeple..look at the really cool, cool parade. Maybe cold? Your tax dollars at sleep. They can't even run a parade right.

Next year back to Black Friday.

Maybe people who are here from out of town will think it IS really COOL.    Are you all a team of caped crusaders?   Maybe they would like to go by Weaver Street and watch turkeys being killed.  How would the sheeple like that?  Why not suggest that as a parade stop.

NY town decides to re-Christmas its holiday parade
(AP) – 18 hours ago

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — A town on New York's Long Island is hoping for better attendance at its 16th annual holiday boat parade this year by restoring "Christmas" to the event's name.
The Patchogue (PACH'-awg) Riverfront Committee says it decided to rename the event "Christmas Holiday Boat Parade" after taking over sponsorship from the local chamber of commerce.
Last year's event was renamed "Holiday Boat Parade" after some residents complained the name wasn't inclusive enough. But the committee says the ensuing controversy led to a dramatic drop-off in spectators. It says it's restoring the word "Christmas" to recognize that that most of the participants celebrate the holiday.
The parade featuring Santa Claus will be held Sunday on the Patchogue River.

The Patchogue Chamber of Commerce renamed it a "Holiday" Parade and nobody came? Where does that sound like?

Welcome back Cal! And yes the Poultry shop, the Gillette House, totally empty Clinton Square and Robinson's Retail Mecca{?} must be included on the pathetic Chamber's list of "really cool, cool thangs".

We'll have to see how many people 'really' show up for this years 'Christmas' parade. Last year they didn't have as many as previous years, so we'll see the turn out this year.

Move the parade back to Black Friday.  Call it a Christmas parade and the people will come.
