Stewarts, Mike's, the airport diner, and the bagel place  --- 4 different businesses with different pools of
customers   ---  it isn't even direct competition.

Oh -- and since sales tax is paid, income tax is paid, and the pilot is phased out in percentages ....... your statement that it is a "tax free business"  is a LIE.

"phased out"       Oh really??????   PROVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Show us the proof of the end date from the official county records !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And, uh, income tax?????   First DV, income tax goes to the state and feds and the state and fed are cutting back on doling out to munis.  Second, are you going to tell us that some bagel baker or some cashier working at that place is being paid an income of something like $40,000 a year or more?   Uh, DV, most of these people that work in these little shops are NOT paying income tax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Instead, they are most likely every penny of their withholding back PLUS a few thousand back!!!!!!!!!   They most likely qualify for EIC

Bruegger's is up on Upper Union Street ...  so I don't believe that a shop 4 or 5 miles away would take
away any business.    Burger King is a completely different type of business.    Some folks will still get their
Whoppers at Burger King  and other folks will buy bagels at this new bagel shop.   Personally, I will buy my
bagels at Bagels and Bites on Curry Road.

This business is drained from SOMEWHERE...

People coming down Union St going to GE for work, or to SCCC...  Deciding to skip Brueggers and go to this place.

It is not as if people who eat breakfast at home are going to suddenly start patronizing this new place instead.

The business is coming from somewhere.  End of story.

Taxpayers are assisting in the funding of the McDonald's culinary empire at the expense of other businesses that did not get such nice perks.  Again - I have no problem with a limited program like this but the imbeciles running Metrograft give away the farm for what...  decades?

I really don't know why I bother to type this stuff.  Even my centrist pragmatism completely eludes you on this particular topic.

Not when those jobs cost the taxpayers over $100,000 in lost property taxes.

STOP perpetuating the lies
Tell the truth for once --- the properties receive an exemption that reduces every year for 15 years.
The FACT is that the owners do pay property tax ... and sales tax revenue is generated from the business
and income tax is generated from the owners and the workers.

If you folks had your way - downtown would be torn down and be a huge parking lot.  Thank God the
voters had the sense to throw the shortsighted GOPers out of the County Leg.

DV, It has been shown FROM OFFICIAL COUNTY  records,  MOST of the properties under the dems "leadership" DO NOT HAVE AN END DATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many bank tellers, hairdressers, dishwashers make $40,000 a year??????????????????????????????   How many toilet bowl washers and receptionists at the hotels get paid $40,000????????????????????????????

How many ticket takers and popcorn makers at the Bow Tie get paid $40,000 a year??????????

Come on DV, ANWER THOSE QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These jobs are LOW WAGE JOBS DV, and they are eligible for Earned Income Credit so, they not only do NOT pay ONE PENNY of income taxes, but they ALSO get several hundred to a few thousand dollars in a handout paid after they file their tax return.

And, uh, DV, use your brain if you have one.  To use your argument about income tax being paid, well, eat your words, DV.   If Bombers opened somewhere OTHER than in Schenectady, income tax would STILL be paid!   If Golub moved the headquarters to Albany, Troy, Utica, Buffalo, Long Island, ANYWHERE IN NEW YORK STATE......income taxes would STILL be paid to the federal and state governments.  So would FICA taxes!

Heck, DV, Jurzynski and Pataki brought DOT down here with it's high paid state employees who DO pay income tax.  BUT, DV, those people would STILL pay income tax NO MATTER WHERE the regional office was located!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The difference is that Schenectady homewoners who are low income have to the property taxes for these million dollar assessments.   Homeowners struggle to pay the taxes on their homes....homes which are decreasing in value while the taxes are going up up and up higher.   Then, on top of paying their own taxes, they have to pay taxes on all these businesses downtown.

Explain to us DV.  Mallozzi is LOADED with money.  That famiy has more money than most people could ever imagine.  Explain WHY a family in the city of Schenectsdy should have to pay Mallozzi's property and school taxes???????????????????   Why DV, WHY?

You CLAIM to be a Catholic, but tell s DV, what would Jesus say?   Would He say that the low income people in the city should pay the taxes for millionaire Mallozzi's?   Would He say it's approriate for for low income people to risk losing their homes because of paying taxes for Mallozzi's to live in the lap of luxury?   Ditto for all those other well heeled.

SO, DV, show us the records from the county website that has end dates on the Savage=Gillen projects

I disagree with this.  The Metroplex has even shown that they can't make money running parking lots.  LOL.  And would Saint Santabarbara be one of those "shortsighted GOPers" for his thinking it would be smart for him to switch parties?  As for the GOP losing seats at the county, the last one they really lost was Mrs. Lazzarri's last run for the seat, otherwise, they have been rather successful, if they could find someone to run for a seat.

Hmmm .. lets see .. 2 GOP members out of 15  County Leg members .. if that is successful in your mind == I bet you think that if someone wins    13% of the vote and his or her opponent gets 87% of the vote that the one with 13% was the winner ....   of if one team scores   2 homeruns and the other 13 homeruns --you think that the one with 2 home runs should get the World Series Trophy.

If you can do better running the parking lots -- go volunteer to help them run them.

Proctor's pays $4 a year for property tax. Marcella's is wholly exempt. On a $1.5 million dollar building (the Stockade Inn) there is a $206,000 tax exemption. The Van Dyke isn't even on the tax rolls.

DV, look in the County Property Tax system, it tells the truth as to which businesses pay property taxes and which do not. As far as lying goes, you don't even know the facts regarding Metroplex or the tax exemptions of 99.9% of the downtown businesses. Who do you think is paying for these tax exempt businesses? For their sidewalks, for the lighting, for the maintenance, plowing...the taxpayers and for 15+ years. I'm a City taxpayer, I know, I pay the tax bills which is more than I can say for many Schenectady businesses funded by Metroplex.

So a $206,000 exemption on a $1.5 million dollar building  -- means they pay taxes on the other  $1, 294,000 in value ---- so they DO pay property tax.
Proctor's is a tremendous asset and - as far as I am concerned - the actual theater building shouldn't
have to pay even a dime of property taxes.    Any other buildings owned by Proctor's, i would have to
think about on a case by case basis.

In the Proctor's Gallery are a number of businesses. Each pay rent to Proctors, yet Proctor's pays absolutely no property tax and recieves hundreds of thousands of rent per year. How are we to rationalize that great injustice to the City taxpayer?

Better, how are we to believe Proctor's is a "non-profit"

Where is it indicated that Proctor's pays $4 in property tax?   That multimillion dollar building is assessed for only $100 (which in itself is a violation of state law) and it is 100% exempt so the property tax would be $0

Sorry MC1 - of course you're right. A few months ago when I checked the County tax system I thought Proctors was stated to pay $4.00 in taxes and I never checked it again. I just checked and, of course, Proctor's pays nothing as you stated as well as Villa Italia and Marcella's. Thank you for setting me straight.

The community draws great benefit from having the Proctor's Theater remaining a vibrant and vital
part of the community.    I have ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM with the theater and the arcade being tax
exempt.  It is a non-profit corporation for the purposes of enriching the community with art and culture.
Only totalitarians would oppose art and culture.

BTW -- I believe that NYSTI's funding should be completely restored as well.   We need more art and
culture in our communities.

Where should that money come from?

I mean specifically what other government programs should be cut so we could fund such a thing?
