Don’t believe anything political candidates say
It is that time of year again, “the silly season.” The silly season is when grown men and women run for elected office. It is silly because the candidates never keep their promises, nor do they address issues. The New York State Retirement Fund for state and local government retirees is shrinking. The “economy,” meaning the losses on the stock market and the bad business practices of the state, are the primary causes. Excessive benefit levels for an elite few are a factor also. Local taxes (property) will go up to compensate the state retirement fund for losses on the stock market. The fund is down 25 percent. Property taxes will rise. In Rotterdam, we have Democrats, Republicans and some newcomers. As a property owner, I can tell you my taxes are high enough, too high. The new Republican campaign headquarters on Curry Road is nice, but no one is explaining what measures the town will take to insulate the property owner from a tax increase. Here are a few suggestions: Downsize town government, reduce salaries of elected and appointed officials, stop the patronage, enforce “quality of life” laws with stiffer fines, charge a dumping fee, evaluate maintenance protocols on town equipment, and minimize vanity “toys” in town offices — printed materials that promote incumbents. None of the candidates has spoken about these things. The reason is quite simple: They are all status quo candidates. There is no indication that any of the candidates is serious about change or holding the line in government. Too many fatted cows are feeding off the public nipple in Rotterdam. Ditto, the county and state.

Another letter from the legendary radio caller "Ira from Rotterdam".
I'm thinking about starting to call in and use a pseudonym. Any ideas? And is there any proof that Edmond Day and Ira from Rotterdam are one in the same? Just wondering how you know this. I know that it's been said a couple times, but repetition does not make a lie true, no matter how many times even the President announces it, i.e. "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Monica Lewinski." Not that I'm saying it's a lie, but there's what, 30,000 people who live in Rotterdam, plus you can call in from anywhere in the Capital Region and say you're from Rotterdam. Heck, they even have a regular caller from South Carolina, who used to live in the area and now listens to how horrible things are here on the internet. |

Some random thoughts on the topic, and arguments on this board... I think... 1) when people say, cause of the democrats, or cause of the republicans.. you are usually passing the buck of your party's falts on to the other.. half the crap i see obama blamed for are the same things george W as doing.. 2) One party is not making this Grand takeover of the country, and the other is not fighting, or standing up!, to take it back.. it's just the same political swings we see when things go bad.. ie the democrats taking over from republican rule we just saw.. the door swings both ways, always has always will.. it's nothing but normalcy. 3) Political Candidates Are All The Same topic of this thread- heck yes.. these people's business is politics.. they are not here for me, or for you.. they are there to further their career.. Like all of us, they go home and act like normal adults, and do normal things, and have normal issues.. but when at work.. they are at work.. and doing what is best for them, just like any normal adult would do..
I think it's usually so very black and white, and I think so so many people are blinded by "party affiliation" people are fans of there party, and fan is short for fanatic.. fanatics don't think rationally.

I agree with the orginal thread all of the canidates are the same right now. Does anyone know if these canidates will have a debate? websites with information on their stance? This is what I know:
Frank - Postion the town is broken and needs fixing....I agree Brian - Postion taxes are high no new taxes....I agree Steve - Position bending the residents over and doing nothing for the town...throw the bum out |
