But I believe that 'whoever' put the sign up......should be the one taking it down. I hardly think that fdg put that sign up there himself.
Agree with you that it probably wasn't FDG personally who put the sign on the barn...but since his name is on it, he should be responsible for the cleanup. Not to mention that it is disrespectful to the property owner to leave it posted on the building! If the Dems (or is it the Conservatives now?) are on FDG's team, let's get the team out there to clean it up!
A Ziggy/Suhrada and McGarry/Mertz together by the bridge in Rott Junction. In Princetown a Holly V sign with a Mary Barrie/Mike V "team" sign across the road. And yes the snow has flown.....
Where in Princetown exactly? If I'm out that way I'll grab them both. I hate litter!
This isn't 'litter' in the sense you are speaking of. It is not litter that someone tossed out of their car or truck.
These are legal campaign signs that need to be picked up by the party members or the candidates themselves. If it were 'litter', they would be fined.

Okay, don't call them litter, but they are no longer needed or wanted and need to be removed. I will gladly pick them up for Holly, Mary and Mike if I know the exact location.
I am not sure if these two were mentioned but....FDG and gang signs on the way into Mohon school on someones fence and one on the old barn going to the Thruway.

According to Town Code, all political signs must be removed within 14 days after the election. Since they have not been removed, the code "could" be enforced and maybe a fine imposed? Or doesn't the Code apply to certain people or parties?
Since they have not been removed, the code "could" be enforced and maybe a fine imposed?
The issue is, who do you fine? The candidate? He/she may not have placed the sign or have knowledge of its placement? The party? The property owner? That would assume that the sign was erected with the property owners' permission.
And, how do you enforce this code when there are many, many other signs that advertise everything from service providers/contractors to fundraisers to garage sales that are posted on private property and public land and nailed/tacked to utility polls that remain indefinitely? Holding candidates and political parties to a different standard constitutes selective enforcement. It would never stand up in court.
Certainly, the candidate and the party should make every effort to take the signs down after election day. However, I don't agree that you can hold the candidate responsible for those that remain. He or she may have no idea where the signs were erected. You can't expect the candidate to drive every street in the town (or county).
Whom ever owns the property is responsible........no different than cleaning up a garbage can from the front of your home at the end of garbage day....

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

fine them all raise as much $$$ to lower the levy and how about all the business/church signs that violate town code you know the ones that look like campaign sign left everywhere
Talking to each other is better than talking about each other
Let's include those signs that say "We Buy Homes" that are posted on utility poles 20 feet high (so that they can't be easily removed). These are signs advertising a commercial business. They violate the town code and are being placed on public property.
How about the hundreds of signs that appeared last year that read "Divided We Fail". Remember those? Had the image of a half elephant, half jackass (er. donkey). The organizations behind those political signs include the SEIU and the AARP. These signs were left up for months after the last presidential election.
I have tried to locate and take down all of my campaign signs. I have spent many hours driving around the towns of Rotterdam, Princetown, and Duanesburg. I believe that I was able to remove 99% of them within 3 days of the election. However, if anyone sees any of my signs or those of the No New Tax Party that still remain, please post the location to this thread or PM me. I will commit to removing them promptly. Or, if they are located near or on your property, you are welcome to remove them and dispose of them. They will be of no use to me if I decide to run for NYS Assembly
