Just when you thought you heard it all from Death Ray and the Metrograft crew. They have a new plan! They have installed bike racks at some empty Downtown parking lots! Your tax dollars at work? Then the quote of the day from Gary Hughes {D-MVP} "As we continue to create more people-generators {like Big House?} in out newly vibrant downtown encouraging the use of bicycles makes great sense"? {TU 9/4/09} So the bicycles can be stolen and the riders robbed? People generators? Like what the closed health food store? This should bring no one Downtown. So pathetic it's hilarious. These people are completely clueless on how to create jobs, reindustrialize the County or rehab anything. |

Bicycle racks and parking lots for the people who have to appear in court, or jury duty, or for the people going to all of the non-profits. Hey....they can spend $26,000 on a street clock that doesn't work....what's a few bike racks? |

Great not only are you forced into jury duty but you have to have your bike stolen? Only in Schenectady. Why should the clock work no one else does in either City Hall or the pathetic City School Administration? |

Kind of like M.visuci's proposal of a tax break for in-law apts. Cater to the few and tax the many. Kind of like suhrada, signore, tommasone, marchenkowski supporting rems. Cater to the few and tax the many. That is called 'raising taxes' no matter how ya spin it. Kinda like 'redistribution of wealth'. Just pointing out that they are all alike. That's why the only choice is the NEW NO TAX PARTY!!! |

No, actually funding safety and cutting taxes are not the same. |

No, actually funding safety by creating a beast of a tax district IS raising taxes. I think it is a fair assessment when I say that creating a tax district for an organization that has a proven record of being ill equipped at best is clearly irresponsible. Especially when there are financially solid private businesses that are ready willing an able to take the helm. PLUS put $80K/year back in the towns budget. We're not talking bike racks here! |

SCHENECTADY Efforts geared to making city more bicycle friendly Metroplex installs racks in downtown lots; trails planned BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Michael Lamendola at 395-3114 or lamend@dailygazette.com.
Schenectady’s downtown is becoming bicycle friendly. The Metroplex Development Authority has installed bicycle racks at five downtown parking lots, which it owns. The city provided the bicycle racks to Metroplex at no cost. “We wanted to make it easy for residents and visitors to commute by bicycle [to downtown],” said Metroplex Chairman Ray Gillen. Schenectady County Legislator Gary Hughes, D-Schenectady, said county and city officials are encouraging people to use their bicycles downtown. “It makes great sense. It’s also an economical, healthy and green way to get to around,” he said. The bicycle racks are free to use and, being located next to parking lot attendant booths, are under constant observation. Each rack can accommodate a dozen bicycles. The bicycle racks are located at: Clinton South Lot behind Proctors; Clinton North Lot near Jay Street marketplace; Center City Lot; Broadway North Lot near Pinhead Susan’s; State and Erie Lot next to the Amtrak station. Gillen said several projects are under way to make Schenectady County more bicycle friendly. They include the construction of four miles of bicycle trail through the city, at a cost of $2 million. The money is coming from the state. Work will begin this fall. .............>>>>................>>>>.........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00801&AppName=1

I bet Olender Mattress will be hopeful that people travel by bicycle and not car. It'll make it so easy for them to carry home a new mattress / boxspring. Maybe this is to help cut down on d&d charges coming from the government gin mills? Hey, I know, you should ride your bike to the "big show" at Proctors. Maybe the workers there will too. Or maybe this is just more of a reach out to the SCCC students to invade downtown.
If they put up all these bike racks downtown, who is going to help the parking lots work their way out of the red? |
