My take on this is that human nature and society work best when the Govt isnt trying to force feed us PC bullsh+t or make us drink kool aid from a fire hydrant.

We all declare for liberty; but in using the same word we do not all
mean the same thing. With some the word liberty may mean for each
man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while
with others, the same word many mean for some men to do as they
please with other men, and the product of other men's labor. Here are
two, not only different, but incompatible things, called by the same name
- liberty. And it follows that each of the things is, by the respective parties,
called by two different and incompatible names - liberty and tyranny."

Funny you should quote Abe Lincoln. I mean after all, isn't that who obama was trying to model himself after? So either our history books have told us lies about Abe or obama has. Cause they clearly are not one in the same as history tells us.

Well, except that obama appears to have the same desire to free the slaves. Only thing is that there are none!!

To be honest with you Lincoln was wrong in fighting the civil war.  Fact is, it shouldn't have even been called the Civil War, it should have  been the War for Southern Independence.  Just like we went over to Iraq to removew a dictator, Lincoln was acting as a dictator who would not allow the southern states to remove themselves from the Union.  Sort of like what would happen now if some state (another name for countries back then) such as Texas decided to leave the Union.

however you want to call it Lincoln perserved the union only real tragedy besides lose of to many lives was the begining of the end of states rights....

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. T.J.

Lincoln preserved the union now it's time for the rest of us to preserve the republic because if we don't we'll lose every right given to us by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to a power hungry government.

In Obama's defense, it was a very large hat.

We lost alot of those rights to things like the patriot act... i don't know why people pretend this is something new.. why weren't the republicans complaining the last 8 years as our rights were being raped, now that we have a democrat in office republicans wanna complain?  Seriously?  After condoning it the last 8 years you kinda lose the right to b**ch about it.

I agree Vaedur, we have been losing our rights for a long time and yes Bush was to blame as well. Fact is Obama is taking our rights far faster than Bush, Clinton or any other president we have ever had. All I'm saying is enough already, we have a Constitution that spells out what the government can do and right now the government is way over the line.

a true and noble leader, patriot, president, whatever, knows when to take power and control and also when to relinquish power and control.

"The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it."   (that is quoted from our constitution)

during civil war there was a rebellion against the union, and lincoln acted to preserve the union

9/11 - was an invasion and Bush acted to protect the Union (tap my phones i got nothing to hide!!)

if you some of you liberals need better examples - think of when marcus aurelius wanted Maximus to free rome from dictatorship, and make rome a true democracy (Gladiator) maximus didnt want that kinda of power but knew he had to, could have been leader of Rome if commodis wasnt a punk b**ch and stabbed him before their final fight....

the crazy elf queen in Lord of the Rings was offered the all powerful ring, but said no!!!

ask obama to relinquish the size and power of the govt? give people real tax breaks, free them from tyranny...

but as always it boils down to liberty vs. tryanny and how people define issues

is liberty providing every CITIZEN an enviroment where they can achieve great things, or is liberty providing an envorinment where anybody can do as they wish on the hard work, money, and dreams of others....

We bought the patriot act hook, line and sinker in the name of 911! Has the patriot act kept our land safe?

The jury is still out. In any case, there were no major protests against the act. Couple that with the 'bush bail-out' and the war in Iraq, and we just see a duplication by obama who campaigned on change.

Health care replaces bushes patriot act, to a degree. Obama continued with the 'bail-outs'. And obama has almost as many soldiers in afghanistan as bush had in iraq.

change???

I'm not an obama defender, not a big fan.. i'm just saying it's been All of them..  It's been a long long time since we had good people running this country..
Obama
I like:  The fact that relations with the world are improving.
I hate: The fact that he seems to be more talk then action.. he sure talks a good game.. lol

Do I think he's a good President:   Nope...
Do I think he's an improvement?:  Yup...
Do I wish McCain won?:  Matters which McCain we are talking about.. he was a great man until he tried to win the votes instead of being himself, and it's too bad.. he could have been what we needed, but he was just as greedy in the end... like all of them...

Politics is a  business for the politicians and all that matters is there individual bottom line.. pathetic.

That is exactly why we need term limits so we can eliminate the politicians need to satisfy special interest groups and lobbyists in order to get re-elected. Serving in Congress was meant to be an honor not a career.

People are human beings- even the ones politicians  like to put on a pedestal- maybe admire the action rather than the person-

Lincoln not only refused repeated summoning to his dying fathers bedside- but refused to go to his funeral too-
