Careful what you buy: Credit card companies are watching

It seems it’s not about how much you put on your credit card that matters anymore, but what you buy with it. A recent post on the Consumerist talks about how credit card companies make judgements about you based on what you buy.

According to their post, credit card companies have adopted a practice where they build psychological profiles of consumers based on the types of purchases they make. This profile is then used when the company needs to make a decision about you based on your risk as a customer, such as cutting spending limits, raising interest rates, etc
