The Schenectady County Republican Committee and the Schenectady County Democratic Committee have finalized their slates for the District 3 2009 Schenectady County Legislature race.

The Schenectady County Republican Committee announced its final endorsements in June, which includes the towns of Glenville and Niskayuna and the Village of Scotia.  The candidates are Tim Macfarlane of Glenville, Kurt Semon of Niskayuna and Michael Mansion of Niskayuna.

“We’ve been working on finding quality candidates in District 3 for some time,” said Tom Buchanan, chairman of the Schenectady County Republican Committee. “We believe we’ve found the top three candidates, and we’re very excited about the campaign.”

He said the elections give the GOP an opportunity to pick up some Republican seats in the suburbs.

“When taxes are so high with the Democratic leadership, we believe we have a strong chance of gaining ground in Glenville and Niskayuna,” Buchanan said.

Semon teaches social studies at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. Mansion is an attorney practicing outside of Albany and is also the Chief of the Niskayuna Republican Committee. Macfarlane is a police officer with the Village of Scotia Police Department.

“Our message is quite simple,” said Buchanan. “Taxes are too high in Schenectady County, and we need to lower those taxes.”

He said that he believes legislators need to take a more fiscally conservative approach to running government.

“We believe that’s a strong message that will resonate with anyone in this environment,” said Buchanan.

Buchanan said that people are “being crushed by unemployment, a bad economy and high taxes, and we need to address those concerns.”

The Schenectady County Democratic Committee has endorsed Susan Savage of Niskayuna, Martin Finn of Niskayuna and Brian Gordon of Niskayuna – all incumbents. Savage is the chairwoman of the legislature.

“One of the things that I have said repeatedly is that the most important thing a party can do is to locate candidates of exceptional talent and ability and nominate them for public office,” said Brian Quail, chairman of the Schenectady County Democratic Committee. .........>>>>............>>>>............http://spotlightnews.com/spotlightnews/article.php?article_id=tE1247079829t4a54ed956f5c6

this was the rest of the article in the spotlight....and I had to chuckle when I read it. Quail is basically saying that everything is working fine just the way it is and voting these same clowns in will keep it that way. What a joke!

“One of the things that I have said repeatedly is that the most important thing a party can do is to locate candidates of exceptional talent and ability and nominate them for public office,” said Brian Quail, chairman of the Schenectady County Democratic Committee.

He said that the Democrats in Schenectady County “strongly believe” that government needs to be effective and efficient.    He said that his party is working toward making government transparent, creating jobs and economic development, which he said are equally as important as controlling taxes, and are, in fact, part of controlling taxes.

“Development and job creation have been the most important priority of county Democrats, and there are a number of proven partnerships that have yielded outstanding results, including the partnership of Metroplex and the County Industrial Development Authority,” said Quail.

He also noted the partnerships and cooperation the Democratic leadership has maintained or built and maintained with local, state and federal governments.

“When you have cooperation and have all oars in the water together, you can get better results for people, and the proof is in the pudding,” said Quail.
