SCHENECTADY -- Former Mayor Albert P. Jurczynski, who later held a high post in the Pataki administration, has a new job as a correction officer at the Montgomery County Jail.
Jurczynski was hired for the 24-hour-a-week post after getting a good score on the civil service exam and will start this month filling in for other correction officers on vacation or out sick, the jail's administrator, Michael Franko, said Tuesday.
A correction officer starting full-time makes $34,329 a year, with an increase to $36,111 in six months, and then $41,348 after two years, according to the state Department of Correctional Services Web site.
Jurczynski, a Republican who served as Schenectady's leader from 1996 to 2003, oversaw a city not only falling into debt, but also confronted by emerging police corruption. He's also known for his success in attracting Guyanese immigrants to Schenectady from Queens. During his two terms as mayor, he also oversaw creation of the Metroplex Development Authority. He was a city councilman from 1984 to 1995.
Instead of seeking a third mayoral term, Jurczynski opted to work for Gov. George Pataki as the deputy director of the Governor's Office of Small Cities for $90,000 a year. The next year in 2005, he was appointed deputy secretary of state for business and licensing services at a salary of $113,400 a year..................>>>>..............>>>>..............http://www.timesunion.com/AspS.....mp;newsdate=7/1/2009
Guess he couldn't find a job in the private sector, huh?
