GLENVILLE Salisbury Chevrolet liquidating Dealer lost GM franchise in bankruptcy BY AMEERAH CETAWAYO Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Ameerah Cetawayo at 395-3040 or acetawayo@dailygazette.net.
Salisbury Chevrolet is only a few months away from closing as one of 1,100 General Motors dealerships being dropped from the automaker’s dealer list nationwide. Salisbury Chevrolet General Manager Dan Carlton said the 57-year-old company will liquidate inventory and parts. It has 40 to 50 vehicles remaining. “So anyone that is looking for a good deal, tell them now is a good time,” Carlton said Tuesday. After administratively dissolving the company, the building and 5.8 acres of land at 175 Freemans Bridge Road will be sold. “We went through every scenario that we could,” Carlton said. “After GM claimed bankruptcy, that forced dealers to relinquish their franchise agreement.” General Motor filed for bankruptcy in June. As a result, dealers who were told their franchise licenses would not be renewed had to sign over franchise agreements to manufacturers, negating franchise laws, according to Carlton. “This was out of everyone’s control. Somebody in Washington, somebody in Detroit had a dart board, and we were hit by that dart,” Carlton said. Carlton said GM targeted dealerships that were in suburban locations. Schenectady and Saratoga counties’ Route 50 corridor got hit the hardest, with Salisbury joining Scotia Motors, Terry Chrysler Plymouth in Burnt Hills and Champion GMC in Saratoga Springs. Despite being the third largest volume dealer in upstate New York and having the best customer satisfaction ratings for sales and service in upstate New York, Carlton said location was ultimately the factor that carried the most weight. “It looks like our location did us in,” Carlton said. “I would personally like to thank all the customers and employees that did business with Salisbury for the last 57 years. Even though General Motors took away our franchise, they can’t take away our memories.” Carlton said the operation at Freemans Bridge Road was too large of a facility to strictly sell used cars. And securing a franchise with a different automotive manufacturer was also unlikely, he said. More than a dozen Salisbury workers are expected to stay with the dealership to the very end, Carlton said. Some already have jobs lined up that they will transition to after Salisbury closes. The loss of Salisbury Chevrolet will be significant, according to Scotia-Glenville School District spokesman Bob Hanlon. Beyond the town and school district taxes paid on Salisbury’s property — assessed at $2 million, according to town records — a void of support to school organizations and community groups will also be left. Salisbury supported the school district’s baseball teams, took out ads in yearbooks and helped out with driver’s eduction courses by providing vehicles at one point. .........>>>>...........>>>>.......http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....amp;EntityId=Ar00700
Thank you Hussein Obama, for more destruction, meddling and attempting to control our economy. I am sure the workers, recipients of Salisbury's charity, and taxpayers (let's not forget the sales tax they generate when they fix a car or sell a part either) think your scheme to close all those dealers is just phenomenal. I know I didn't convince anybody, I just used blind fanaticism in this post, but nonetheless- I had to get it off my chest how idiotic and downright unfair your brand of socialism (crony-capitalism) is.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

I'm sure you completely support fellow party member Bush's $750 billion bailout of the banks. Because,,,,,,,, Republican GOOD - Democrat BAD. Republican are good intentioned and Democrats are bad intentioned. Republicans expand government and take away your privacy and freedom(patriot act) it's OK, because Graham is a memeber of the party that created the Department of Homeland Security under that act. If a Democrat was President, and created a whole new department in the federal government with the authority to spy on the citizens of the United States, they would have been screaming COMMUNISM, KGB, or anti American.
That's why your party is impotent on the local, state, and national levels. Their hypocrisy stinks to the high heavens.
Graham, do you believe it is hypocritical for the Town Republicans to hire a private law firm to represent the town, claiming it saves money, but doesn't want to hire a private Ambulance service for the same money saving reason? Does it have anything to do with it being the Republican Party Chair's law firm?

Dude, do you have your head buried in the sand somewhere? WTF do you think is happening right under our noses and we aren't even hearing it because the media is all in bed with this administration.
No wonder Washington doesn't want to shut off the flow of illegal ALIENS into the U.S., illegals are their smoke screen for unconstitutional search and seizure. How clever!
I'll take homeland security over illegal searches ANY day. One is protecting me as I've got nothing to hide. The other is walking right in my front door and there's NOTHING I can do to stop it.

I think you'll find MOST people in this forum are just as critical of Republicans as they are of Democrats. Both parties are as corrupt as they can possibly get (I hope). How many people have you seen here changing their affiliation to "blank" or "independent". They're even backing away from the "conservative" label - because we all know the "conservative party" is well, NOT.

Just because wire tapping your conversation is legal due to the passage of the Patriot Act, doesn't mean that the act of eavesdropping doesn't violate your right to privacy. We were sold the Patriot Act with the wink and a nod and a trust me. I'm sure goose stepping Republicans like Graham will tell us how the founding fathers would have hailed the Patriot Act as most liberating piece of legislation in American history.
What would ole George Washington think about the Patriot Act? I guess if it were written and signed into law by the Federalist Party he'd be fine with it.
I don't think Washington was a Party guy though. He put his principles before his party.
Brad Littlefield was denied Republican endorsement, because he wasn't willing to sacrifice his principles for the Republican Party bosses. Brad resembles George Washington more that any of the endorsed Republicans.

Like I said, I'm not worried, I've got nothing to hide. Invading my privacy? Maybe - but if it keeps some jihadist a**hole off my front porch or out of my bank accounts, or divebombing knolls, ya, fine - I'll let them listen, NO PROBLEM!
Washington? Don't bet that he didn't have spies working for him to see what was happening. ALL presidents do/did.
I don't see what Brad Littlefield (whom I've already supported and contributed to) has to do with this conversation.

Roughly the same way the stimulus/tarp package was shoved down our throats? Or the Health Care Act? Or the bankruptcy of GM & Chrysler? At least the Patriot act was in response to something legitimate. Out of all the senators, rep and dem, - what, 3 opposed it? How many would TODAY say that we can't keep our eyes and ears open to what's happening around us?
And I notice you didn't comment on the illegal search that's going on. You just chose to bash Graham.
Because people are sick and tired of business as usual by both parties I think the people who are trying to run without party affiliation should do pretty well in the next election.

If you have nothing to hide, why do you care about illegal search and seizure????? Oh,,,,,, it's because Obama's president.
The point I was making is that legal and illegal have nothing to do privacy rights. If Congress passes a law making it legal to search and seize, you then would have no problem with it? Or would it depend on what party is responsible for passing the law? If it's sponsered by Republicans, it's a nobel and just law. If it's sponsered by Democrats, it's a met with outrage. With warnings of communism, and calling everybody who supported the bill a communist.
This is an oligarchy. You are getting your rights taken away by both parties. And the true believers like you and Graham that continue to play the left vs. right B.S.
I'm all for throwing all of them out of office no matter what party they belong to because they haven't been doing the job we elected them to do for a long long time. A perfect example is our own dysfunctional NYS Assembly and Senate who have refused to follow the will of the taxpayer and continue to keep fighting for power and control instead doing their job.
I have to agree with cicero on this one. And why? Cause I was one of those people who thought the dems were socialists (which I still believe they are) and the reps were not (which I now doubt).
I WAS one of those people who would have believed and accepted just about anything the reps dished out. (sad to admit) I admit that I voted for bush II, but it wasn't until the last year or two of his term that made me see that they are ALL alike. (especially Bush's bail-out)
They are ALL power grabbers. And shadow you are correct....we are all sick and tired of the relentless politicking, the campaign promises, the lies and most importantly the lack of equal representation for all of us! it is nonexistent!
The dem party is a shameful disgrace to this country and our community. And the reps are just a party without a platform, direction, vision or voice!
I am and have been a registered blank and will continue to encourage everyone to do the same.
back on topic.....it will be a sad day when salisbury closes!

Noooooooooooooo...... The Republicans didn't change the balance of power in the Senate with a little tomfoolery. This was a text book display of the democratic process. The will of the people is represented.
If the roles were reversed, and the Dems changed the balance of power in the same fashion the Reps did, I would bet my life on party loyalist like Graham would be calling it a communist coup by the liberal democrats. Spewing rhetoric, referencing the likes of Stalin, Marx, or Castro. But since the "good guys" overturned the will of the people with political high jinks, it's perfectly alright.
How do you feel about patronage jobs awarded by the party in power? I know that Joe Shurada has been vocal about County Democrats giving jobs to cronnies like Ed Kosiur. Joe being a conservative, what do you think his position is on the Repulican Party chair's law firm being hired to represent the town.
