Editorial: YouthBuild prepared young people for jobs, and a productive life
Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Regardless of the state of the economy, one of the hardest things is to train and find good-paying jobs for the young underclass, very low-income 16-to-24-year-olds with no high school diploma or job skills.
A nationwide program called YouthBuild has come closest to establishing the model, and Schenectady’s YouthBuild, under Northeast Parent and Child Society, has done even better than most in terms of job placement. We’re glad to see it recognized and rewarded with an additional $687,500 in federal stimulus money, allowing it to increase the number of participants from the normal 44 over the next two years to 72.
Unlike programs that put young people in make-work jobs, or train them for jobs that don’t exist, YouthBuild teaches them real skills for real jobs in the construction industry. The participants get hands-on experience working under qualified instructors on projects in their own community that benefit the community — like Better Neighborhoods Inc. affordable housing in Schenectady. They also receive counseling and values and leadership training, and study for their GED through Schenectady County Community College.
The new grant will be primarily for training participants in green building jobs, which are expected to be in great demand in the coming years. That should help Northeast Parent and Child improve on its 75 percent placement rate............>>>>>...........>>>>...........http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2009/jul/01/0701_edit1/

Parenting would have been the best help. More blind fanaticism, I know.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Unless that parent happens to be a school board member.  They only raise Stalinist children, unworthy of breathing the same air as Grahambonnet.  Children of School Board members would need to go through the Grahambonnet re-education camp.

Fascism - Communism - Pick your poison.
