If this is a moral issue - it isn't about Letterman- dont blame him for the subject matter   If it is about " political correctness"

For example Mel Brooks would not be making Blazing Saddles today -  Brooks was  equal-opportunity offender, he assalted  the sensibilities of Native-Americans, Jews, Chinese, Irish, women, horses, the handicapped and others. If “Blazing Saddles” were pitched in Hollywood today, Brooks would have been hastily escorted off the lot, and executives would quickly issue a statement that the move had nothing to do with him being short and Jewish-  the good old days ?

You are mixing apples and oranges here.
First, Letterman IS the subject matter. This part of your post has nothing to do with pc. In the case of Letterman, he was referencing to, in a derogatory way, a woman, by name(sarah palin) and her 14 year old child regarding sex with an adult male, by name. That so called joke had nothing to do with pc. It has everything to do with poor personal judgement. PERIOD!

Second, Blazing Saddles is an excellent comparison to pc. Couple that with All In The Family and you have the ultimate in political correctness. But the fact is that in either case, they were speaking/joking about groups be it ethnic or religious such as you mentioned....jews, blacks, women or who or whatever. Big difference.

And let's face it....Letterman would have said just about anything to get better ratings than Conan!

Letterman apologized but his only fan keeps up the defenses. You have the wrong daughter-she is not "in the public eye" -she is not a public figure-she's a girl that doesn't deserve this treatment. Letterman said her mother "has a slutty flight attendent look". Real funny joke for morons?

Letterman is a washed up talk show host. Comedian? A comedian is funny. A comedian does not attack 14 year old girls with rape jokes. If he did that with Clinton's daughter he would have been thrown in prison.

He is the best talk show host out there.....thrown in prison ..ya ok...people need to lighten up

The Best? Pathetic-Gee thought he was a comedian? Tomorrow he'll be a has been. Make that today. Making rape jokes about a 14 year old girl? Comedy classic. Except when its your kids...

I never really liked Letterman's late nite show. I preferred Leno. Now that he is gone and Conan has taken over....I don't watch either.

don't ya love the way the audience applauded him? Don't get me wrong.....letterman was clearly a victim of extortion. But his infidenlity to his wife was considered what?

Bizarre case creates mess for Letterman
DA: Suspect a debt-ridden CBS producer

BY DAVID BAUDER The Associated Press

NEW YORK — A CBS newsman who prosecutors said was desperate and deep in debt was charged Friday with trying to blackmail David Letterman for $2 million in a plot that forced the late night comic to acknowledge having sex with some of the women who have worked for him.
The bizarre case created a messy legal and professional problem for one of CBS’ most valuable personalities. Commentators and bloggers quickly accused Letterman of hypocrisy because he has made a career of mocking politicians mercilessly, often for their sexual transgressions.
From a strictly business perspective, Letterman’s revelations on Thursday’s show were an immediate success: His overnight ratings were up 38 percent over the same night a week ago, the Nielsen Co. said.
It remains to be seen whether Letterman will suffer long-term damage just as his career appears to be peaking. Letterman has taken over as the king of late-night in the ratings this summer, and last week he beat NBC’s Conan O’Brien for the fi rst time among young viewers. .................>>>>.............>>>>................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....1&Continuation=1

Letterman issues on-air apology to wife, staff
BY HOWARD KURTZ The Washington Post

David Letterman apologized to his wife Monday for having sexual relationships with members of his “Late Show” staff, telling his audience that she “has been horribly hurt by my behavior.”
Adopting a more abject tone than when he disclosed his sexual misbehavior last week, Letterman made clear during a taping that his disclosures have created difficulties in his seven-month marriage to Regina Lasko. He described his conduct as “stupid.”
“When something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it’s your responsibility, you try to fi x it,” the comedian said. “And at that point, there’s only two things that can happen: either you’re going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you’re going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed, so let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me.”
Letterman’s show of contrition came on a day when Robert “Joe” Halderman, the CBS News producer accused in an extortion plot against him, mounted a counteroffensive, with his lawyer arguing that the indictment “makes no sense.” ........................>>>>..................>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00203&AppName=1

Wow i was wrong, i just looked her up.. she's not a hot 20 year old like i expected.. she looks.. normal...

Well he ain't the best apple in the barrel. Without his celebrity status....he'd be what? Clearly not rich or well dressed or would have name recongition.
And I'd have to guess that his SEXcapades have been going on for years if not decades.

A jerk? He should have his show yanked off and be thrown into prison. Boycott any of his advertisers. If he has any left. Letterman is stooge for the DEMS only making fun of REPS but never our glorious leader or stuna Biden.

His apology was half baked. How dare he make fun of a raping a 14 year old girl? It's not funny-he never was funny-he is finished. Where is his common decency? Another new low for the MSM.

As usual-4 months ahead of the pack. Throw him in prison. He verbally attacks a 14 year old girl while his abusing show staffers?

You're right --he's funny but everyone is laughing at him.
