For what its worth...local town elections are POPULARITY contests, pure and simple.  Guys like John Mertz, Steve Tommasone, Joe Suhrada in my opinion are unpopular politicians at this time.  Mertz is definately unpopular as evidenced by his being dumped by his own party and failure to come even close in the Primary.  Steve and both Joe's have unfavorable poll numbers that may be the barometer for tomorrow's results.

Lets face it, the GOP have done some pretty stupid things the past two years.... ex. Parisi's stupid illiterate attack, the hiring and public support of Craig Surprise, the dumping of John Mertz, losing a strong vote getter like Holly Vellano, the ill-advised town board raises, the handling of the Eunice Esposito situation, the no-bid computer contract that Mike DellaVilla was awarded, the Signore kid appointment, the police commission...I don't know if the GOP would ever admit it but there was/is an appearence of entitlement by the REPS and I think the clock has struck midnight.

All this bunk on Libertarians, Ron Paul, consevativism, NNTP, CD23, Hoffman, blah, blah blah is finally over after tomorrow.  There will be changes but will they be POPULAR? I will let you know in 2011. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

The conservative movement is nation wide and will continue as long as the politicians in Washington keep ignoring the people who voted them into office.

First pdq..aka...puddy....thought you said 'bye bye'.

Second, you are possibly correct on your assumption of the present administration. POSSIBLY! But we clearly do not want to take a stroll back in history and have a repeat performance with fdg and crew.

Which only leaves the NNTP. That is a no brainer.

There is NO DIFFERENCE between the reps/dems in this town,in this county, in this state, in this country......

conservatives----what ever that may be in definition shouldn't have a 'priestly view'--IMHO....just conserve
yourself, stay out of my business/pockets/choices........

the folks(alot I admire) had better clarify themselves as to what a conservative is(leave out the bible/koran
banging morals)----conserve the government.....which means less to do less with........prioritize---

ROW F ALL THE WAY----NO NEW TAX PARTY........time to pull down---we're tired of pushing up and back

GET THE MONKEY OFF OUR BACKS.....AND IT'S FAMILY MEMBERS AND THEIR CROOKED FAMILY TREE........

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Senders--your definition of "conservative" is a good one.  Right leave the Evangelicals out of it--Karl Rove to blame there.

Good folks in the NNTP for sure.  Great post.

Quoted Text
Walmart has stepped up efforts to mobilise local political support for new store openings in US cities and urban areas that were last month identified as a growth priority for the retailer by Mike Duke, its chief executive.

In addition to a renewed drive to open a second Supercenter store in Chicago, the retailer is also raising its political profile in Philadelphia and continuing to cultivate the ground for a potential move into New York City.

Walmart has long faced political resistance to its plans in the largest US cities, largely orchestrated by the UFCW grocery workers’ union and its political allies. Walmart, the largest US private employer, is strongly anti-union.

Thanks for posting that MT. It is a reminder of what could happen if fdg and crew get elected. Walmart WILL rear it's ugly head. Thanks again for the post!

And we are worried about using the senior center for politics........

EXACTLY!!! The senior center will go on. The seniors aren't quite as helpless as 'some' would want us to believe.

Walmart will have a negative impact on this town.

in our region this party has a strong memory for where the money came from
the more you give the more you get

as for the senior center
no politics in daily operation
however if a room is rented to offset operational costs
legal gatherings should be promoted

Mighty Mouse,
When I was in charge of the Senior center no politics were allowed there day or night.  I requested that we rent the space for that activity and the Paolino administration said no.  They didn't want to start a rental business which then would entail personnel to be there and a janitor on the premises as well.

If they rented the building for their soiree the other evening that is terrific.  Had no idea they could now do that.  That's a very good change.  Was for it then and think that is a good way for revenue.

Seniors are neither helpless or stupid.  Often they need someone to advocate for them.

IT WAS AN OPEN FORUM AND DEL GALLO WAS INVITED LIKE THE LWV BUT HE DIDN'T SHOW! Stop rewriting history. He was hunting or something and he skipped out on a second chance to debate. We had voter forums there in the 90's and I was involved then and I can tell you that nobody bitched then.

Look, the senior center, as it is called, is not and should not be exclusive to the seniors. It is a BUILDING! A BUILDING that is owned and paid for by ALL of the taxpayers in Rotterdam.

It's an old school building, just like the old Draper school. Granted it's not privately owned like draper was, but rental should be considered. If there are any vacant old classrooms not being used....turn them into offices and rent them out. Is there a working kitchen...utillize it. I know that the girl scouts use a part of the building, but why restrict it to non-profits only?

Come on people....get creative!

Pipe down GB--I am not looking for an argument.  I was just stating what I was always told five years ago.  And BT as usual wrong again.  That building WAS and IS supposed to be restricted for senior use.  At least that is what Queen Holly told me then.  Kitchen use falls into a different category.  It's a senior center precisely why I asked the Town to bring the concerts there in the summer instead of expecting the seniors to negotiate the uneven grounds at TH. Yes I always thought rental should make it to the priority list.
AGAIN I'M NOT ARGUING ABOUT IT JUST TELLING YOU WHAT I WAS TOLD.

LWV acted appropriately in my opinion which I realize is not yours.

Government buildings are inappropriate for politics. Don't want to see Tonko or the town REPS using it. Rent out Sons and serve ziti. What next a "forum" at the Post Office?

As far as Walmart militant unions are opposed to them except here where Severino doesn't want a bigger one. God forbid some revenue comes in that's not from the oppressed taxpayers property taxes.
