Former Schenectady mayor won't fill Raucci's job

SCHENECTADY — Former Mayor Al Jurczynski was among those who applied to be supervisor of building and grounds for the Schenectady City School District — the job formerly held by alleged arsonist Steven Raucci.
“I applied and I was unsuccessful,” Jurczynski said on Tuesday. “That’s all I want to say. I didn’t make it.”
Raucci retired in March following a 36-year career with the district after being arrested on arson charges. He has since been indicted on 26 charges alleging, among other things, that he planted explosive devices to intimidate his enemies.
District spokesman Karen Corona said 25 people applied for the position. Twelve candidates were interviewed in the first round. That list was then narrowed to five and now two finalists. The selection committee is in the process of scheduling interviews with those two candidates and expects to choose someone as soon as possible. The Board of Education will then vote on the committee’s recommendation.
This person would supervise more than 125 custodians and maintenance staff throughout the district. Corona said the salary would be determined by a person’s qualifications and experience but is at least $80,000. It is also a “middle management” civil service job.
“The candidate can be hired provisionally, but they’ll have to take a test,” she said.
Jurczynski has kept out of the public eye since he was defeated in a bid for the Schenectady County Legislature in 2007. He was mayor from 1996 to 2003, during which time the city’s finances deteriorated and a major drug scandal hit the Police Department. Jurczynski also pushed for the immigration of Guyanese into the city and persuaded former Gov. George Pataki to bring state jobs to downtown.....>>>>....>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2009/jun/03/0603_formermayor/

How does Stratton get to be re-elected when he clearly has imposed the highest taxes ever and comes with more police scandals than Serpico?????
