Wait a sec.. it sounds like the accessor (i'm reading the letter) is saying if you submit your tax records, then we can try to access by income instead.. he's not telling, he's asking.. I see 0 issue with that.. i still do see the issue with doubling what your business is worth.. (although i do wish you that much success)!

Vaedur...point taken. However, let's take villa italia as an example. They had a building on Hamburg St.. They also had a very lucrative business. So let's say they were taxed based on their income. What would happen if when they moved to broadway, they sold the building to....oh lets say a small pizza place that would clearly not make the same yearly income. What would the pizza joint pay in taxes?

In other words, are they going to reassess every time a business moves out and a new one moves in?

I think it's crappy what they are doing. . I'm just commenting on that particular thing about he income.. it didn't seem forced..

It also doesn't seem like they had a reason to do what they did either..exspecially when your taxes are factored into your cost of doing business, and a doubling of that can cause things like ..

laying off an employee or two

I understand 100% your displeasure with the issue, you are 100% in your right to feel that way, and i agree with you

The assesor has NO right to ask a business person how much they make. Every business has good years and bad years and in this economy property values should be going DOWN not up, thats the reason why theres should be Revals atleast every 10 years. Everyone should be assesed the same based on the square footage and acreage. Unfortunately in this town its based on who you know and who is jealous of who.

Businesses people and homeowners should not be PUNISHED for making their property or businesses look nice. They should be encouraged because it makes the whole town look better.
Its the people that dont take care of their property that should be taxed more.

Molly,

Not to stoke the flames but did you know that the Supervisor's brother received a significant reduction in his assessment without any supporting documentation from $511,000 to $395,000?  Did you know that there were many other reductions given out by Mr Surprise without just cause?  Did you know that John Mertz received a reduction in his assessment on a house that he purchased for over $400,000 back in 2007 and now has an assessment less than that?  Are you aware that many current patronage position appointees have seen reductions along with family members?  Oh the list goes on and on.  The best way to rebel....GET THE CURRENT REPUBLICANS OUT and put the government back into the the hands of the people, not special interests > > > >!

Ya, that's working so well at the federal and state level, eh?

Puddy, you and your alter ego (PDQ) should really STFU before you get yourself in even deeper.
