Old and sad news. This is what happens when the government gives one bakery a taxpayer handout. It's called uneven competition. No one else can compete.
Chris's Bakery on Northside is also shuttered. Ditto the great White Eagle. Including Freihoffer's closure on Albany Street hundreds of bakery jobs have been lost in this County. But shh, don't say anything against "renaissance". A wall of silence. Everyone jumping up and down like babboons about a burrito shoppe.
I know that they stopped making cakes and baked goods about 6 months ago. When I went there to order a cake, they said that their Glenville location was doing all of the baked goods. I didn't know they had a Glenville location. They started advertising pizza and wings. That was the last I knew.
I'd been going to Alfred's regularly right up until about Easter when they suddenly went on extended vacation. Too bad, I really liked their pizza. I tried the new Madison Pizza a few times in the shopping plaza at the corner of Altamont and Chrisler...they've done an outstanding job each time!
Looks like there's going to be a new pizza shop in town. I went by the old Alfred's Bakery , today and there was a new sign. "Cusato's". There was a help wanted sign out front also. I'll have to give them a try.
this would be a good place to put a sub - station for the RPD in my opinion since the old station is no longer useable anymore over there
Glad you're not in charge of making that decision.

It has all the original products and makes there famous whip cream cakes.Give them a call at 384-2696 open tues-sat 10-7
Rotterdam really needs a bakery. We went to Alfred's even when Villa Italia was still in town.

I miss Alfred's Bakery. I ordered all of my special occasion cakes from them. They were great! I use to go there every Sunday for my Sunday dinner deserts. It was convenient and personal and the service was great!
