Farley supporting the free health clinic just shows a shade of him being a RINO, but I'm wondering if there's now anything other than that on that side of the aisle here in NY anymore.
Sacrifice Fourth of July fireworks for free clinic
I was dismayed to read the Oct. 2 article in the Gazette, stating that the Schenectady Free Clinic will be forced to close its doors because of a lack of funds. Wouldn’t it be great if the Golub Corp. (Price Chopper stores) would forgo the fireworks display at the Plaza in Albany next year so that instead of burning up thousands of dollars for this event, they could donate the money to the Schenectady Free Clinic to keep it open? Many other companies might consider doing similarly. We can all live without fireworks, but many people will not be able to live without the Schenectady Free Clinic.
This seems to be a yearly problem. I agree that would be an excellent way to help them out. They probably could do both. Cut the fireworks show by 20 minutes and give that money to the free clinic. Not sure Golub would see it that way. We all should put in some bucks. I do and I will again.
Golub's already pay a good chunk of change in benefits including health care to their thousands of employees. They pay to have a 'doc in the box' on premises. They have already given over $1M to keep Bellevue women's hospital afloat. Talk about spreading the wealth.
It's nice that you donate. Keep up the good work.

SCHENECTADY Clinic’s appeals for aid heard Fundraisers being organized to help keep doors open BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter
For years, the Schenectady Free Clinic helped Norma Rios with her chronic medical problems. So it was only natural, Rios said, that she step up to help the clinic as it struggles to fi nd money to stay open for her and around 3,000 patients with little or no insurance. Rios is one of several people and organizations in the area seeking to help the free clinic keep its doors open. The clinic has resorted to public appeals for money after being turned down for state and federal fi - nancial assistance. Rios, a student at Schenectady County Community College, is trying to raise money for the Franklin Street clinic through the education community. “The clinic needs help,” Rios said. Rios, who is partially blind, goes to the clinic for help managing her diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis. She is an older college student, lives on a fixed income and has no health insurance, she said. “I can’t get assistance elsewhere. I don’t want to go on welfare or anything else like that [to obtain Medicaid],” Rios said. Rios stated fundraising and grant writing for the clinic in September. “It is very important,” she said. She understands the importance of medical services for people, having worked as a certified nurse assistant for 23 years before hurting her back and returning to school to get a degree. Here's an idea close Bellevue like the Berger Commission said to and permanently fund the Free Clinic. Stop building a new County Home and fund the Free Clinic. It's about tough choices-the kind the County DEMS refuse to ever make. In case you missed it Bellevue just lost a $46 MILLION lawsuit from a mishandled birth twenty years ago. The Free Clinic is keeping the Ellis ER from collapsing.
People hate going to Ellis ER. Because of these changes the ER at St. Peter's is now being overwhelmed. All people have to help the free clinic. The service they do is immeasurable.
Ellis has become a never ending construction site. The ER there is disgusting. They should have closed Bellevue {or made it the new County Home} and moved all ER to St Clare's. Look for another fiscal disaster because of the failure of anyone here to heed the Berger Commission.
Re Oct. 11 article, “Sacrifice Fourth of July fireworks for free clinic”: Bravo, Judy Family. There really is no contest on which has more value: Free health clinic vs. fireworks. Hopefully, America’s love of noise and colored lights in the sky will take a back seat to the health and well being of our fellow Americans.
