Let me see if I understand ... GM and Chrysler take how many BILLIONS of dollars (taxpayer dollars) cause without it, they won't survive till tomorrow.  Now, if you're stupid and buy a car when you KNOW there's a possibility - or even liklihood of losing your job, it's ok, cause GM will rescue you with taxpayer dollars that they needed to survive

Hyundai did this also, however when it started, they would take the vehicle back - without a ding to your credit, if you lost your job.

Isn't this kind of a "what comes first, the chicken or the egg" issue?

We personally have liked GM vehicles.  We've had them for most of 40 year that I can remember in my family.  Though the second car was sometimes a non GM.

But, to each his own, everyone has their preference for make of car.

But WHY is GM struggling?   Because people are not buying cars of course.  Why are people not buying GM cars....because they are concerned if whether the company goes bankrupt?  No way.  People just are not buying.  We really need to replace our main vehicle, a GM.  However, we are not buying now.  About this time last year, maybe more into early summer, we were talking about trading in but we figured we'd wait tll toward the end of the year when they want to get rid of their 2008 inventory.  We aren't so extreme that we have to buy a 2009 make in 2008.  But when things started taking a down turn in the economy, and one of us could potentially be out of a job, well, that is the reason we didn't buy.  And when you think about the people all over the countr reacting the same way we are, well, of course that's going to hurt the automakers.  

But I'd rather see auto makers and their employees (the average worker, not the executive) get taxpayer benefits over the banks and the AIG's in our country

Personally, I'm planning on buying a new vehicle in the next month or so. I'm currently driving a Chrysler product and have no qualms about driving a GM.  I've also owned Ford, Nissan and Jeep in the past.

My gripe I guess isn't with the brand, it's using the taxpayer money to pay for the loans that rational people, like you, won't get into when there's so much uncertainty.

I dont care which company.....they are all sticks in the mud and had better get on the ball......warranties are just a nicety.....there are systems in place
for these GIANT companies to use to restructure.....THEY SEND LOBBYISTS TO WASHINGTON....they get laws passed to protect their profits and
style of doing business.....they know bankruptcy laws and procedures........USE THEM......YOU HELPED MAKE THEM.....YOU HELPED 'SUPPORT'
THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS IN DETROIT.....THE UNIONS WERE RIGHT ALONG SIDE OF THEM........

GET ON WITH IT ALREADY, STOP BLUBBERING AND MAKING TOTAL FOOLS OF YOURSELVES.......DO THEY THINK WE DONT KNOW THAT POLITICIANS
