I thought that we were discussing "child discipline" not domestic violence.

Domestic and child abuse have a direct relationship-( grandpa hits grandma- daddy hits mommie - etc )  - and what was acceptable then and what the law is now -  NO BELTS

This  is a moral and ethical issue that very few  can discuss without  injecting a political agenda- politics muddling every conscious thought-

Domestic and child abuse have a direct relationship- I didnt think this was a new idea- -  and on top of that recounting experiences from your past and others - and what was acceptable then and what the law is now - NO BELTS  and no more smacking your spouse around either-

Jo Ann this  is a moral and ethical issue .  Politics seem to muddle every conscious thought  anyone has  and a political agenda is inserted in the place of reason -  I guess you dont see that ?

No political agenda here. Just opinions. And I find it quite amuzing when a society makes it legal to 'kill' a child before it can take it's first breath, but finds it illegal to spank them IF they are fortunate enough to be given their God government given right to life.

You've done a very nice job of redefining the topic and blurring the line, by attempting to equate domestic violence and what we're discussing, corporal punishment.

You start your argument with a fallacy..... Are you saying that if grandpa doesn't hit grandma there is a direct relationship of no child abuse.  Is it possible that those who spank their kids DON'T beat their wife????

Oh yeah.... We were discussing "child discipline" when you and those who think like you wanted to turn those who use corporal punishment when raising their children into child abusers.

I love this....... The person who wants to protect children from child abuse is ok with destroying embryos by the millions.

My parents didn't hit each other and they only applied corporal punishment to me a few times during the whole 17 year period of my childhood.

There were a FEW occasions when I NEEDED TO FIND OUT WHO WAS BOSS, AND ALSO LEARN THAT MY OPINION DID NOT MATTER since I was WRONG, ILL-BEHAVED and acting animalistic. You see, I wanted t simply act through my testosteone driven INSTINCTS in those times as a boy. No "civilized" response would do the trick. Having a high tea and crumpets, and a hand holding would really not cure my animalistic instinct at the time. I NEEDED to be slightly put into my place. My parents knew that if I was allowed to get out of control, follow my instinct to act up, rough-house, or rebel, they would be dealing with a renegade child. Which is exactly how children WHO DON'T GET DISCIPLINE (corporal or OTHERWISE) ENOUGH COME TO BE. The worse part is through the political/social ideal of liberalism, we find today that ALL ORDER has broken down to the extent that sociopathy and lack of discipline are the norm with young people, not the exception.

It is like when you go to the park and see these young ladies being dragged by their large dogs. The "dogs are walking THEM." Anyone who has raised a large dog, owned or ridden a horse, or trained any other beast finds that there is a rule. the rule is that you must maintain dominant status. The horse is far bigger and stronger than the 100 lb. lady rider, yet the horse, through the proper training, learns not to throw the rider and trample her BECAUSE THE RIDER ASSERTS. The Alsatian can rip his mistress or master to pieces but learns not to because the owner ASSERTS. The parent must also assert, and minimal "discipline" is usually needed. See my earlier post about my 95lb. mother and her 185 lb son. My mother did not 'abuse me." She asserted.

DUHHHH liberal democrats we need to read more Dr. Spock and be "friends" with our kids...

I believe that the gentleman who was arrested has a bucking bronc. It may be a little late to apply the crop. He has a wild stallion who wants to do what he wants, when he wants. The boy will probably end up being broken in prison down the not so far line by a less caring rider...WHY??? Because the SCHOOLS discouraged the discipline, the CULTURE discourages the discipline, the feminized nature of new parenting discourages discipline, and now the GOVERNMENT discourages discipline. Like the old timers would say (oh those stupid dead white people of days gone by) "Spare the rod and spoil the child."

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Justice is rebuked over spanking
The Associated Press

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — A justice of the peace who gave parents of school-dodging kids the option of paddling their children in court or paying a fine has gotten a warning from the state panel that oversees judicial conduct.
The State Commission on Judicial Conduct rebuked Gustavo Garza for violations of judicial conduct that included the option of spankings instead of $500 fines. The commission found that Garza exceeded his authority by providing a “safe haven” for corporal punishment.
“Judge Garza routinely facilitated and permitted the paddling of juveniles in his courtroom, thereby clothing the practice with an improper judicial blessing,” the commission wrote in its March 9 public warning.
The warning was not accompanied by any fine or discipline.
If Garza continued the practice, he could receive discipline or the commission could ask the state Supreme Court to suspend him from office.
Garza, of the southern Texas town of Los Fresnos, said he believed the positive result of reduced truancy cases in the school district outweighed any harm from the spankings, The Brownsville Herald reported Wednesday.
“I understand their [the commission’s] function and they performed their function as best they thought they could,” Garza said. “I respect them. I performed [my function] as best as I thought I could.”

‘Whupped’ child got just what he deserved

Re March 26 article, “Dad charged for ‘whupping’ his son”: Good for Lloyd Ray Fisher. He should have used his belt long before March 13. Spanking with the hand is acceptable for children three to 10, depending on the offense, but after that a paddle or belt is correct, depending on the crime.
Mr. Fisher’s son had been in trouble many times. Just stealing once is an unforgiveable offense, much less hitting and using scissors to cut a girl’s hair. How dare anyone cut a girl’s hair? I’m glad she wasn’t my daughter.
Just because the son comes from a broken home is no excuse for his obnoxious behavior. At 13 he knew exactly what he was doing. He needs anger control. The child also lies. A couple of welts shows no sign of 18 strikes. He’s lucky he only got two welts.
Mr. Fisher did not serve any jail time. He committed no crime. If he didn’t love his son, he would have done nothing. The son should spend time in juvenile jail and be made to listen to what he has really done to society, as well as to himself. If he is looking for attention, he certainly did get it. Now he needs to really reflect on what he has done to his family, classmates, adults, parents, teacher and mostly to himself.
“Spare the rod, and spoil the child” and look at what we have now. Every school has problems with undisciplined students and why? Mostly because parents do not teach their children proper behavior at home. So-called experts like Dr. Phil and others are much of the cause of young people’s attitudes, actions and behaviors. Punishment cannot ruin a child — looking the other way and not taking action always will.

Bravo to Ms. Tucci, Graham and Mr. Allen. This bully needed a swift kick in the rear end. The mother is exactly what is wrong in our Nation today. Instead of supporting proper punishment she calls the police? WTF? Throw her into prison as Ms. Tucci advises.

The DA should have more pressing crimes like the Mad Bomber Affair. This should be laughed out of court. We need to get back to the belt and wooden spoon ASAP. My parents also gave up on breakable spoons or yardsticks. Not sturdy enough for continous usage. The sight of my Dad's belt or Mom's paddlestick was enough to keep 4 teenage sons in line.

Bad information - one only needs to go to Dr Phils web site to find his view  on spanking-

What Does Your Child Learn by Being Hit?
When you spank, you introduce chaos into your child's world. This tells him or her that violence is acceptable, and it's an OK way to react when you're mad. If your child is subdued, but continues to think of hitting as an acceptable behavior, is the trade-off worth it?

Is It Working for the Long-Term?
"Spanking your kids may work to suppress his or her bad behavior temporarily, but it isn't a learning type of discipline. The message they get from being spanked is "I'm a bad kid," which doesn't help your child figure out what he or she did wrong — or how to keep from doing it again!

This is far too much  " work " for most parents-

I heard Dr Phil tell a parent on his show that it was ok to spank the child when the child started punching the parent in the face when the parent picked him up to put him in time out. There are exceptions to the rule, not every child needs to be spanked but there are some children that won't respond to the accepted methods of discipline.

Im sure most that are raving about how much spanking helped each of you- fine - I still maintain that that if spanking is your first chice of dicipline- that is " knucklehead thinking " and all of your AUTOBIOGRAPHIES are old and boring- Dr Salami- Grahm and others-

Two things you should NEVER say to your child if you want him/her to behave are: "I'll give you something to cry about," and "Wait until your father gets home." Children can see through idle threats and will eventually ignore them. They will also take advantage of the fact that one parent doesn't want to deal with doling out the discipline and tries to hand it over to the other parent.
