Whether Ang is right or not has nothing to do with this. It is just playing politics...I'll support yours if you support mine.I don't call that 'working together'...I call that bad politics at it's best! Both the DWT law and this proposed ban on certain plastics law have no business at the county level. The DWT law can not be enforced and the plastic ban obviously can't be enforced. These legislatures have to be reminded that they are just lowly county reps. They are not state or federal legislatures trying to pass a law that can only be enforced at a state or a federal level. They all need to get over themselves. These legislatures have to go, and be replaced with representatives that will work for the people and not themselves.
We have police consolidations to deal with, along with increased crime, the long line at the DSS building, the ever rising taxes, the plex audit, the opening of the Big House, the up coming elections and the list goes on and on and on.
Pressure those at the state level for these 'feel good' laws.

NEWSFLASH: The Big Hose is not opening and never going to open. Death Ray has been trying for a year to lease this folly with no success. Another Metrograft flop-like Clinton's Ditch/Square, Van Dyke and Robinson's Square. {partial list}
DSS lines? I thought Death Ray created 3,000 new jobs-lol! Too bad they are all in County government like Lumpy Kosiur and Joe McQueen's lob jobs.
This is a FEDERAL issue and the sooner we move on the County issues like closing the $19 MILLION County deficit the better. Coming next: a trans fat doughnut regulation and tougher anti-smoking regs that ban outdoor smoking?
They all need to get over themselves. These legislatures have to go, and be replaced with representatives that will work for the people and not themselves.
This is nonsense. The issue is not one to be addressed at the county government level. Like much of the legislation that is being passed by our county legislators including the sex offender residency law, the driving while texting laws, etc. it is not enforceable.
If this legislation passes and takes effect in June, how will it be implemented? Will all products that contain the chemical be pulled from the shelves of retailers? Will there be replacement products available that are certified to be BPA-free? Or will county residents be required to buy from outside the county or go without?
If our legislators consider this to be the most important issue facing the county I suggest that they ALL need to be voted out and replaced with representatives who are in touch with the community that they are elected to serve.
Sorry for dropping my 2 cents in on this, but yes, first, Mr. Santabarbara is wrong for bringing this up, especially now. This is not a county level issue. I disagree, however, with those of you that see this as a federal level issue, also. Any of the federal bureaucracies that would deal with this would be unconstitutional. This, in fact, is a state issue, which would probably go through with flying colors, if given the chance.
Thanks, so sorry for being gone. Let's keep things on topic. Maybe there will be an extra tax in Schenectady on buying these? Or do you have show ID, being of a certain age? I'm sorry, but this is the second thing off the top of my head that I can remember disagreeing with Angelo Santabarbara on (the first being the texting law).
Board to consider law to ban chemical County has public hearing to discuss pros, cons of products containing BPA BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Michael Lamendola at 395-3114 or lamend@dailygazette.com.
Schenectady County Legislator Angelo Santabarbara will introduce legislation next month to ban the sale of plastic products containing bisphenol-A, or BPA. Should the Legislature adopt the ban, Schenectady would become the second county in New York to come out against the potentially harmful chemical. Suffolk adopted a similar ban in March, and Chicago on Wednesday became the first U.S. city to ban the sale of baby bottles and sippy cups containing BPA. “I would like to bring it to the committee meeting in June, so we can debate and make decisions. That is what I will request of them,” said Santabarbara, R-Rotterdam. Democrats, who control 11 of the 15 seats on Legislature, will decide whether the legislation makes it to the floor for a vote. Legislator Brian Gordon, DNiskayuna, an orthopedic surgeon and chairman of the Legislature’s Health Committee, said he wants to move quickly on the issue. “My position is I would do it sooner rather than later. I have signifi cant concerns about the safety of this chemical,” he said. Gordon, however, would not commit to a date as to when he will submit a proposal on BPA, saying he needed to further investigate the chemical. The chemical is used to make shatter-resistant, lightweight, high-performance plastic for such products as bicycle helmets, medical equipment, safety glasses, automobile bumpers, compact discs and DVDs. It also is used to line the inside of metal cans in the food and beverage industry. Scientific and medical experts disagree on the chemical’s safety. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it is reviewing BPA research, but for now said FDA-approved products containing BPA that are on the market are safe. ........>>>>..........>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....amp;EntityId=Ar01002
Quoted from Kevin March: I'm sorry, but this is the second thing off the top of my head that I can remember disagreeing with Angelo Santabarbara on (the first being the texting law).
I'm with you on this Kevin. I disagreed with the passage of both pieces of legislation because (1) they are not a county government issues, (2) the laws seem to be unimplementable and unenforceable, and (3) there are many more pressing issues in Schenectady County, starting with the oppressive property taxes, criminal activity, and neighborhood decay, that need to be addressed than to waste time on this "feel good" nonsense.
The elected representatives in the county legislature appear not to have the ideas or plans on how to combat the real problems that face county residents.
Agree with you but add one more major disappointment; ANG's reappointment of Death Ray for another 5 year sentence. Metrograft must go and Death Ray should be fired before the State audit is released. This is not a State issue either. Just what manufacturers need 50 different standards for a product?
With rumors of another 18% increase in record County property taxes and no layoffs nor any cost containment talk, it's way past time to get down to budget cutting. Every other County, even Albany is cutting needless bureaucrats-Never Schenectady County. Stop wasting time with feel good and nonsense nanny legislation.
Metrograft must go and Death Ray should be fired before the State audit is released
I suspect that, with over a year passing since the audit was conducted, that the taxpayers will NEVER know the results of the audit because the State Comptroller's office, for whatever reason, will never release the findings.
