Finally, Metroplex has attracted someone from outside the county - brought jobs TO Schenectady (and not from one of the towns within the county) I'll bash Metroplex every day I see them bullshitting us - but when I actually see a "win" - I'll applaud them, as is the case now. I don't see any details of this on their website, nor in their minutes from previous meetings, but I "assume" (god help me) that they actually had a role in this companies decision to move here.

Advanced Energy Conversion LLC, which engineers ways to convert electric energy to usable forms, is moving from Saratoga Technology & Energy Park in Malta to a 10,300-square-foot space at 450 Front St. in Schenectady, the Metroplex Development Authority announced this morning.
Advanced Energy Conversion had outgrown its space at STEP, according to Metroplex, and had been searching for larger quarters in the Capital Region. The space it chose is in a building that it will share with Automated Dynamics, which produces both composite materials and the automated means to manufacture them.
Advanced Energy Conversion expects to boost employment to 15 by 2011, Metroplex said.

 Actually this is more BS from the master. First, the jobs are "possible" by 2011. Second ""Metrograft {Schenectady County Sheeple Taxpayers} will provide them with a $50,000 GRANT to help pay for the move and for fix up costs in the new HQ!" {TU} No mention of property tax give aways in this article. More nothing, more illusion, more smoke and mirrors. If only we could bottle the smoke, then we might have something to sell. |

Actually, I have to agree with Benny here. First, I will be waiting patiently for the next two years to see the 'boost' to 15 employees. How many do they presently employ? Who will be overseeing these companies that get these tax breaks by promising an increase in their employees? And I'd have to believe that they will also be granted an Empire Zone tax / Q.E.Z.E..(4%tax)
Hoping all is on the up and up...but there are a number of Empire Zoned business. Have they increased their employees by the Empire Zone guidelines? Such as Huff & Puff, RailEx, Rotterdam Industrial Park, Villa Italia, Golub Freezer....just to name a few. Who and how often are these Empire Zoned businesses checked? |

If they're relocating and coming IN because of the Empire Zone, I guess that's an acceptable "incentive" for me. If they're coming in for the "facade" grants, that's a different story.
I guess you both kinda popped my balloon a little, I was really hoping for a success story. It may or may not come to fruition - like you, I'll have to wait and see. |

While this development sounds positive, I agree that we need to learn of the details of the agreement. I want to know what was promised to the business owner by the Metroplex and if there are performance benchmarks attached to any monetary award / funding. |
