more government, more regulation, more people deciding what is best for you is not the answer. I think we can all agree on that at least
people need to take them time to educate themselves about everything not just health issues, make better more moderate choices in life, and take more responsibility.
doctors are people too - they dont always do things that are in the best interest of the patients look at the octomom, or these doctors in Calif. that overdrugged anna nicole smith.
question your doctors decisions, ask questions, ask what are my options, what else can i do to help myself. get information. Causing knowing is half the battle.... go joe!
I agree with you that there is no quick 'good' fix. But we have to start pushing back to where the medical system is privatized. It would be a start. Give private insurance companies incentives for competition. Keep the government out of the medical business.
And let ALL government funded health care be restricted to it's own government funded hospitals. Such as the VA. Keep the public and the private sector of health care separate. Combining the 2 have just cause a major headache for both sectors. For patient and medical provider.

all I can say is thank god that we have the leaders in the county and white house to fix this since the drugs SHOULD NOT BE COSTING THAT KIND OF MOENY TO MAKE THE RICH RICHER

Ya Sal, lets take the money away from those rich private businesses that employ and provide benefits for people. Ya know that thing called capitalism?

like bumble said - becareful what you wish for this is what happened in the UK with their socialized medicine, it took them two years of protesting to overturn this decisions
"In June 2007 RNIB spearheaded a mass campaign in response to draft guidance issued by NICE proposing that people go blind in one eye before qualifying for treatment with anti-VEGF drugs. The campaign generated a record response from over 13,000 outraged people demanding that NICE rethink their proposals.""
incase your eyes are having a hard time reading that let me explain. BASICALLY SOME COMMITTEE IN ENGLAND SAID IT COST TO MUCH TO TREAT PEOPLE WITH MACULAR DEGENEREATION, SO THEY WOULD WAIT UNTIL VISION WAS LOST IN ONE EYE BEFORE PEOPLE WOULD QUALIFY FOR CARE. DO YOU WANT BUERACRATS MAKING DECSIONS FOR YOU OR YOUR DOCTOR.... WHAT IS GONNA HAPPEN WHEN A COMMITTEE DECIDES IT IS NO LONGER FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE TO PROVIDE SUCH TREATMENT.
Thanks for the article Yankee....as scary as it is!
I remember quite a few years ago, there was a female patient who was covered by MVP, who needed a liver transplant. MVP kept dening request after request. MVP finally agreed to it but it was too late....The woman died. The story was all over the media and MVP really could not defend or explain itself out of that one.
This whole HMO thing and oversite of the insurance companies began with Hillary when she tried to reform health care when her hubby was in the oval office. She started this mess! I want 'my doctor' in charge of my health care...NOT the insurance companies or the government. Ya know...that thing we call freedom of choice?

I work in healthcare and the things that go on are very scary
doctor prescribes drug A for patient, but insurace company will only cover a generic version of a similar drug so patient pays out of pocket cash or gets something that wasnt prescribed
MVP has gotten in trouble before - if you ever go to the ER and get checked into the hospital make sure you notify your insurance. Certain plans require notification if admitted through ER.
Mangaged care - Chiropractor says patient requires an MRI and 2 months of care. managed care says scratch the MRI and only treat for two weeks patient isnt in enough pain....
Doctors are loosing there power left and right and ins. companies are making health decisions for you instead of the doctors that exam, consult, diagnose and treat you. That is why there is a doctor shortage and most dentists make you pay cash and bill your insurance out of network. They say you need one thing but the insurace will only pay for something else.
Copays rise, deductibles rise, the doctors fee schedules get chopped, so they have to see more and more patients to pay everyone....
broken system...
that is why i stress self reliace, education, self responsibility,
Sal.....go eat the bark off the tree in your backyard...it will lower your blood pressure and clean your bowels......
and yes the MD's have lost the ability to 'practice medicine' and the public lost it's ability to discern and have relieved themselves of person responsibility via the millions of lawyers.......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
I went with my mother's and she got zero cents off a 73 buck copay.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
Drug discount card a ‘great successs’ SCHENECTADY — Schenectady County residents have saved $104,880 using a card that provides discounts on prescription drugs, according to county officials. The discount is available at nearly all pharmacies and more than 5,700 claims have been filed locally, county officials said. ProAct, a subsidiary of Kinney Drugs Inc., is working with the county to promote the discount card. ProAct is a pharmacy benefi t management company headquartered in New York state. ProAct is not health insurance, but is instead a program that offers a discount of up to 20 percent on all brand-name medicine and up to 50 percent on all generic medicine, county officials said. The county distributed the discount card to Schenectady County households in late February. The card is free and does not have membership fees or income requirements. The card can also be used for discounts on medications for pets. For information on the discount card, contact the Schenectady County Legislature at 388-4280.
Here is yet another pre-election, feel good article from the gazetto (as Benny calls it). This drug card has absolutely NOTHING to do with the county officials! REALLY! Anyone can go on-line and request a card! With all of the non-profits and welfare give-a-ways in this county, I should think there wouldn't be a need for yet another 'drug card'!
