SCHENECTADY COUNTY
County to mail out free drug benefit cards

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

Every household in Schenectady County will receive a free prescription drug benefit card this week, according to program organizers.
ProAct, a subsidiary of Kinney Drugs Inc., is working with Schenectady County to promote the plan. ProAct is a pharmacy benefi t management company headquartered in New York state.
ProAct is not health insurance, but is instead a program that offers a discount of up to 20 percent on all brand name medicine and up to 50 percent on all generic medicine, county officials said.
County spokesman Joe McQueen said ProAct will mail out 72,000 cards starting Tuesday. The mailing will go to every household in the county.
“We want people to look for them. We have been told people think it is junk mail, that nothing in life is free. So we want them to recognize what the mail looks like and watch for it,” McQueen said.
ProAct is paying for the mailing; there is no cost to the county to sponsor the program. The county and local pharmacies in the program will keep extra cards available for people, McQueen said.

it looks like pigs r flyin.  Democrat leaders are giving free drugs to the people.  They r creating jobs, cutting taxes & eliminatng crime.  they will give us free medical care.  Look for a Dem blowout of Repubs at the polls in Nov.  The conserv board will endorse the Dems.  Together, theyll rule the county and the Repubs will be done.

The Dems help people.  The President is helping us with the stimulus.  He will help us pay for our house and get medical care and sent r kids to college.
that is why the Repubs are done as a party

Left turn, you're  very naive to think that way, there is no free lunch, or free drugs, or free medical care, someone is paying for it and it's the taxpayers. Obama is only helping us to get to the poor house faster.

The drug cards are for discounts of up to 20%.  I have received similar discount cards from several organizations in which I am a member.  These cards are typically offered as a group discount plan.

Recall that Walmart also offers substantial discounts on hundreds of prescription medicines.

And, as Shadow states, there's no such thing as a free lunch (or prescription or medical coverage, etc.)  That is, of course, unless you
are an illegal immigrant.

These discount cards are nothing new or no big deal. I get them in the mail and I even get them through my email. I don't get my meds from Walmart....but Walmart is cheaper than using these cards.

Just more smoke and mirrors from our infamous leaders.

First, Clyde, welcome to the site.  Second of all, I don't see this as immigrant bashing at all.  In fact, there's one small word that you forgot when you were bringing up about the "bashing" of immigrants...ILLEGAL.

There's no problem with immigrants coming to this country, just do it the legal way...the way the rest of the people (minus somewhere between 12 and 20 million) did.

I think we should also check where the postage is coming from on these.  Is this company paying the postage, or is the County?  If it's not the company, then we, the residents of the county, are STILL paying for the project in the cost of the postage from them to us, as well as possibly the return postage when somone uses this plan.
