What is all of this here? I don't understand a lot of this
Sal...you understand nothing.

SCHENECTADY Raucci’s ’08 pay topped $129KFacilities chief earned thousands working overtime BY MICHAEL GOOT Gazette Reporter
Suspended Schenectady school head of facilities Steven Raucci made more than $568,730 in the last fi ve years — including $50,000 more than his base salary in 2008 alone. Raucci is on unpaid leave facing terrorism and other charges for allegedly planting explosive devices in three counties in three incidents from 2001 to 2007. Raucci’s base pay in 2008 was $79,297. A Freedom of Information Law request from The Daily Gazette produced records revealing that Raucci’s total compensation that year with overtime was $129,364. His compensation was $123,306 in 2007, $115,951 in 2006, $96,256 in 2005, $103,854 in 2004 and $69,067 in 2003. Raucci made a substantial amount in overtime during the past few years. Superintendent Eric Ely attributed it to the fact that in addition to being the district’s head utility worker, Raucci also served as its energy management program monitor. “Part of his duties were to go through the buildings late at night when nobody was in there to monitor them,” he said. Raucci did this during evenings, weekends and holidays. In addition, he was actively involved in the district’s ongoing capital projects and also was responsible for responding to weather-related emergencies such as snow and ice removal, evening alarms and any vandalism to district buildings. He managed more than 100 employees in more than 21 buildings. Despite the amount of overtime, Ely said, he had not planned on making any changes to Raucci’s duties — such as getting a lesser-paid employee to perform them — before the current allegations surfaced. He said that this energy program had been handled by another person previously whose job was eliminated a few years ago as part of a budget cut. “It actually saved them money. Instead of paying two people and two benefit sets, you’re paying one person,” he said. Right now, Ely said, the buildings’ energy use is being monitored by a computer and no one is walking through buildings as Raucci had done. The question of Raucci’s compensation by the district arose after police said they seized $120,000 in cash from his Niskayuna residence when he was arrested on what would be the first of at least three charges of placing explosive devices. County records also show that Raucci had paid off his mortgage in 2004 after purchasing the house in 1997. A copy of the Civil Service Employees Association contract was also provided upon request. Raucci receives time and a half when he works beyond 40 hours per week. The CSEA contract says that union members who are employed by the district on or before July 1, 1997, cannot be laid off unless they are terminated for just cause. The contract also says that an employee has a right to confront any person who lodges a charge against him with the school administration. No disciplinary action can be taken against the employee if the person who made the complaint refuses such confrontation, unless the .......................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....amp;EntityId=Ar00102
Unreal... $130,000 for a janitor and the Superintendent of schools continues to support and defend this nut job. Man, it almost looks like Steve Raucci IS the Schenectady City School District. I mean- he obviously controlled everything and everyone including the Superintendent. I wonder if he controlled the school board too? It never ends with this guy.
Well in all fairness he didn't make the contract. The administration did. But he looks guilty of his crime so i won't defend him.

He could have made more money in the private sector but wanted to work with children. No outrage, no calls for resignations from the do nothing School Bored, no accountability. Unit President who still has not been terminated for bringing dynamite into a school.
If I am understanding the media correctly....how can the school be held responsible for something they knew nothing about? Did this guy ever have any 'write-ups' in his employment folder? And again, I'm not defending the guy or the school, just asking a question here....please!!

And pappa was he just a 'janitor as you say? I thought the job included the supervision of about 100 people? The media made it sound like he was in a management position. No?

OMG! Papa is right. The City Schools were sued for $8 MILLION because of this guy. Others came forward to complain and were told to see the Police. He brought dynamite into school-forget about the separate criminal charges-what if a student did that? Immediately thrown into prison. When you see how this was handled you understand why the City District is in the bottom 1% of the State. Disgraceful, weak as water, pathetic.

"For something they knew nothing about"? The biggest hint there was a problem may have been the 8 million dollar lawsuit against Raucci and the school district which will be settled for millions now. That certainly shouldn't have been the first clue. Sounds to me like this was going on for decades and there's no way the district did not know. I know a dozen people within the district and I haven't found one yet to say that he or she did not know that Raucci was blowing things up for years. Do you really think that when the former Athletic Director left his job right after his car and/or house were bombed that he didn't mention that to the Superintendent? I know the Superintendent says that there aren't any complaints in Raucci's file or something like that. I am sure- if there was- Raucci would have purged them. Over the years there must have been plenty of allegations and rumors- all that resulted in no action by the district. That is something that will cost them millions of dollars. If Raucci doesn't get bailed, people will continue to come forward and I would guess that we will hear more stories of his misdeeds.
I would venture to guess that it will be quite evident that not only did they know- they condoned his actions because he single-handedly kept every employee in place. Yes, he was the Supervisor of 100 people. I would love to see how many grievances he filed over they years and the outcome of those. My guess is that he never filed one and if he did for some reason have to file one- the administration caved and Steve Raucci won. Sounds to me like Steve Raucci was the School District. There was no reason to file a grievance because whatever he wanted, he made sure he got.
Just look closely at what the Superintendent has said from day one about the Raucci case........... "Don't know the validity of the charges" "The police never told us"... "He had a lot of people under him, had to go through the buildings at night"... to justify $130K a year which I may venture to guess will be a position that will never be filled at a pay rate anywhere near 130K. His job will be done by someone for half that or less and the only change in the work environment will be less bombs and less fear and intimidation.
I won't use the word "defend" because I know you do not want to defend him, but I would challenge anyone to find a school district- even a district much larger that pays an employee $130k a year- other than a Superintendent who receive about that level of pay. He probably has a GED or highschool diploma to boot!
The real story here is how complicit the School District/ School Board was in this thing. I hope I am wrong.................... and Ron Kriss and his attorneys certainly plan on proving I am right!!
