Sorry folks but I agree in part with this Riano! No one can say that she did not bring up a valid point about the cop who has threatened to kill his wife. Double standard?  And if Raucci did, as alleged of sexual innuendos with co-workers, that would be covered under sexual harassment. It should be dealt with separately...not with this fire cracker incidents.

And so Raucci was an intimidating boss. Ok....Is he the only boss out there that is or was?

Here is where the real problem lies....If there were accusations of sexual harassment and intimidation, his a$$ should have been fired!!! That is the issue here folks. Who was protecting him and why? Why is Ely splitting town? Why isn't ALL of the FOILED information available?

And since when does anyone have so much faith in Carney? I believe that he is know as the 'plea bargain' king! I think this goes W-A-Y beyond Raucci. IMHO

Ely's big interview is Tuesday night in Erie PA. Can't wait to see how this turns out.

Wonder if they got any letters or emails concerning it?

Officials respond
to schools audit

SCHENECTADY — Schenectady school officials have completed their response to the state comptroller’s audit last November that faulted the district for allowing former facilities director Steven Raucci to collect more than $50,000 in undocumented overtime.
The audit by Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said that Raucci’s time sheets did not state the overtime hours allocated to each responsibility and the district did not have additional supporting documents detailing the duties he performed during those hours. Raucci is awaiting trial March 1 on arson and terrorism charges.
The audit also said Assistant Superintendent for Business Michael San Angelo did not certify 11 out of the 14 payroll reports reviewed, the district did not obtain bids from the required number of vendors for about $300,000 worth of claims, and school officials did not hire an internal auditor until almost a year after it was required by the state.
The district had 90 days to submit a plan for correcting the problems. Comptroller’s Office spokesman Bill Reynolds said the deadline has not expired.
District spokeswoman Karen Corona said the plan would be submitted to the state Comptroller’s Office pending Board of Education approval at its work session on Wednesday.
The board will meet at 7 p.m. in The Commons of Schenectady High School.
Board President Maxine Brisport said the district addressed the issues.
Details of how the district corrected the problems were not immediately available.

SCHENECTADY -- The trial of Steven C. Raucci begins Monday -- and with it may come clarification as to how involved, if at all, school officials were with a man accused of terrorizing fellow employees.

Raucci, the city school district's former facilities supervisor and CSEA unit president is facing 26 criminal charges, including allegations that since 1993 he has placed homemade explosive devices at homes and on cars in an attempt to solidify his personal and professional authority. He has been in jail without bail since his Feb. 20, 2009 arrest.

The charges would be noteworthy if they were made against anyone. But the fact that the allegations involved a school community, and that questions continue to swirl even a year later about what administrators might have known, make Raucci's trial a possible powder keg of information.

Bumble-
For whatever reason you have questioned the arrest of Raucci from the beginning and tried to minimize his actions, such as
calling the explosive he used "firecrackers".  You should attend the trial.  As I told ya a year or more ago- you are wrong on this issue as you are
on most you comment on.

.
I don't have all of the facts to defend or convict him. And perhaps I, nor anyone else ever will. But I am questioning this entire process. My little pea brain sees COVER UP all over this case. Does everyone really believe that this guy acted alone? No one new nothing??????? I, personally, find that hard to believe.

I would guess that someone will have the facts and evidence to convict him in about a day and a half>>>  Cover up?  Doesnt look that way  To me,
looks like a nut job who acted alone and Ely and school board members used him.

Papa,

What do you mean by "Ely and school board members used him"?  To intimidate?
How was Raucci used?

If, indeed, Ely and the Board members used Raucci, wouldn't that imply that he
(Raucci) did not act alone and that there may be complicity by the others who you
mentioned?

I don't know much about Raucci's actions other than those things of which he has
been accused and that were reported in the news.  However, I do agree with bumblethru
that there may be others involved by either "using" Raucci to further their objectives
or who knew of Raucci's actions and didn't report them.  Does that then make them
accomplices?

I hope that to close this entire ordeal that all those who served on the School
Board during the period in which Raucci's actions are being discussed and all of
those in the adminstration of the High Schools, Jr. High Schools and Elementary
Schools are deposed and called to the witness stand to answer questions about
their knowledge and involvement.  Only then, will the public understand the full
extent of the issue and be satisfied that it has been addressed.

Motions reveal development of pending case against Raucci

BY STEVEN COOK Gazette Reporter

One piece of evidence, an alleged illegally manufactured explosive device, was found behind an offi ce potted plant, inside a building where hundreds of middle school students attended classes.
Another was found soaked into a cigarette butt and matched with evidence from a surreptitiously seized fork.
Still another is an alleged recording of Steven Raucci’s own words, telling an informant wearing a wire about a bombing — that he was the prime suspect and that he “did it for a friend,” even showing the informant his personal copy of a more than seven-year-old newspaper article on the bombing tucked in a briefcase.
Each piece of evidence has come to light over the past 12 months through pretrial motions looking to suppress evidence against Raucci or free him on bail while awaiting his trial, which is scheduled to begin Monday in Schenectady County Court.
Each piece of evidence has served to support the prosecution’s depiction of a man who thrived on power and retaliated against anyone who challenged that power.
That power manifested itself, according to the people’s case against Steven Raucci, in vandalism and bombings, carried out in the dead of night, against those who got in his way — or even in someone else’s way.
Beginning this week, Schenectady County District Attorney Robert Carney will have the opportunity to present that evidence to a jury of 12 Schenectady County residents, attempting to convince them that Raucci is guilty of the 26 counts lodged against him, including terrorism and arson.
Defending Raucci will be veteran attorney Ronald De Angelus.
De Angelus has argued that many of the expected witnesses against Raucci have a monetary interest in seeing him convicted. At least 11 people, including several at the center of some of the charges, have filed lawsuits or tried to file lawsuits against Raucci and the city school district where he was employed as facilities director until shortly after his arrest.
One couple, Harold and Deborah Gray, formally filed a lawsuit against the school district just two weeks ago.
“I don’t believe the DA will prove each and every element of every count beyond a reasonable doubt,” De Angelus said in a brief interview last week.
De Angelus declined to respond to specific alleged pieces of evidence, leaving that for the trial.
WHO KNEW?
The case has been closely watched since Raucci was led away from his Mont Pleasant Middle School offices by city police officers on Feb. 20, 2009. ...........>>>>.................>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00102&AppName=1

SCHENECTADY -- When at least 300 potential jurors for Steven Raucci's arson and terrorism trial show up at the Schenectady County Courthouse today, they should come prepared to answer questions in what will likely be a meticulous process.

Depending on how many jurors are selected on the first day, court officials could then bring in another group of 300 and repeat the process. More than 650 summonses have been sent out to county residents.

Jury selection in the high-profile trial of the city school district's former facilities director, who is charged with vandalizing the homes and vehicles of those he felt crossed him, is expected to take several days before opening arguments begin.

District Attorney Robert Carney, the lead prosecutor, has said he expects the trial to last about a month. On Raucci's side will be veteran defense attorney Ronald DeAngelus of Clifton Park.

Raucci jury process begins Prospective jurors warned to avoid local media reports
BY STEVEN COOK Gazette Reporter

Jury selection in the criminal trial of former Schenectady city schools facilities director Steven Raucci began Monday morning in Schenectady County Court, and the process is expected to be a long one.
Monday’s goal was to go through as many as 300 potential jurors, screening out those who couldn’t serve. A similar group is expected to be vetted later in the week.
Attorneys asked the potential jurors whether there was any reason they couldn’t be fair or impartial if they are selected to serve.
The lawyers for both sides are trying to get an impartial jury empaneled after a year of intensive media coverage in the closely-watched case involving alleged bombings and attempted bombings.
Raucci, 61, of Niskayuna, is accused of planting bombs, vandalizing homes and intimidating people over a period of years with the alleged goal of currying favor with higher-ups and solidifying his power in the school district where besides acting as director of facilities he was also president of the union local representing the employees he supervised. ..................>>>>..............................>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00100&AppName=1
