Phil Says "Six More Weeks of Winter!"

Phil's official forecast as read February 2nd, 2009 at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob:
Hear Ye Hear Ye

On Gobbler's Knob this glorious Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2009

Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators

Awoke to the call of President Bill Cooper

And greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths

After casting a joyful eye towards thousands of his faithful followers,

Phil proclaimed that his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers were World Champions one more time

And a bright sky above me

Showed my shadow beside me.

So 6 more weeks of winter it will be.

Gee, 6 more weeks of winter.  That'll bring us until about the second week of March.  I bet we'll get 7 weeks, not 6...at least that's what my calendar says!  This makes as much sense as a winter storm warning in Upstate NY anytime between the end of December and the end of March.  It's winter, prepare for a storm.  It could happen anytime...you live in Upstate NY.

Groundhog bites mayor; spring’s coming
BY SARA KUGLER The Associated Press

NEW YORK — Mayor Michael Bloomberg has battled union leaders, politicians and other tough characters during his two terms in office — but it took a groundhog to actually draw blood.
The city’s prognosticating rodent, Charles G. Hogg, also known as Staten Island Chuck, bit through Bloomberg’s glove and chomped on his left index finger when the mayor was trying to coax the animal into view with an ear of corn.
“It nicked his hand,” said Bloomberg spokesman Stu Loeser.
The mayor, who is left-handed, used a napkin to wrap the cut until he could check with his doctor about further treatment. He was told there was no risk of rabies because the 2-year-old animal was born and raised in captivity and has had no interaction with other animals.
Both the groundhog and the mayor were able to collect themselves and participate in the annual ritual at the Staten Island Zoo.
Chuck did not see his shadow — unlike his more famous counterpart in Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil, who did.

Where's PETA when you need them?  I mean really, held in captivity, not around any relatives since his birth?  It's no wonder he took a bite out of the Mayor.  I bet he probably spit out after getting a taste, though.

Q.  Why did the NY mayor pull a groundhog outta his cage?

A. To see how much he could tax him, of course.

only if some inventive NYS entrepreneur could see the $$ after killing, gutting and skinning it....to make a hat......
then again, it would have to be a public company traded on the stock market and with a whole bunch of pensions invested along with
some Madoff's and some more taxes,,,oh,,,and more taxes....then send it offshore for assembly...that is after we import other groundhog skins....'cause ya, know our credit cards are maxed and we cant afford them to be made in America......unless some Hollywood diva
makes them popular and jams it down our throats with some bling-bling during a superbowl commercial with a half naked woman......

Washington (ANI): Paris Hilton has come up with a unique way to fight recession shopping! Hilton announced that her income has barely been affected by the ongoing credit crunch, as people are still paying her big bucks to make appearances at major nightclubs. However, Hilton plans to give a boost to the retail industry by keeping up with her shopaholic attitude.

"It's really scary about the economy right now. So the way I'm playing my part in helping is doing a lot of shopping wherever I go," Contactmusic quoted Hilton, as telling Heat magazine. The stunner previously pledged her help to the American economy by vowing only to wear clothes by U.S. fashion designers.
