Obama: Quit Listening to Rush Limbaugh if You Want to Get Things Done
Obama warned Republicans to quit listening to Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats, during a White House discussion on his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

WASHINGTON -- President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.

Rush Limbaugh Responds to Obama Attack

Monday, January 26, 2009 11:26 AM

Rush Limbaugh has responded sharply to President Barack Obama’s comment about the radio talk show host, calling Obama’s economic stimulus plan "a trillion-dollar debacle."

At a meeting with Republican leaders on Friday, Obama told the lawmakers they shouldn’t be listening to Limbaugh if they plan on getting along with him.

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told the GOP leaders during a discussion about his planned stimulus package.

Limbaugh fired back in an e-mail to the Palm Beach Post’s “Page 2 Live” columnist Jose Lambiet, saying Obama is trying to shift the focus of the public debate from the stimulus plan to the radio talker.

Limbaugh, who has referred to Obama’s inauguration as "The Immaculate Inauguration," mockingly called the new president "The Great Unifier."

"If I can be made to serve as a distraction, then there is that much less time debating the merits of the trillion-dollar debacle," Rush wrote.

"The Great Unifier’s plan is to isolate elected Republicans from their voters and supporters by making the argument about me and not about his plan. He is hoping that these Republicans will also publicly denounce me and thus marginalize me."

Limbaugh continued in his e-mail to Lambiet: "I believe his stimulus is aimed at re-establishing 'eternal' power for the Democrat Party rather than stimulating the economy, because anyone with a brain knows this is NOT how you stimulate the economy.

"Obama’s plan would buy votes for the Democrat Party, in the same way FDR’s New Deal established majority power for 50 years of Democrat rule, and it would simultaneously damage any hope of future tax cuts."

Obama's $825 billion stimulus bill is set for debate in Congress this week.

GOP lawmakers have to forsake Rush Limbaugh

At a time when record numbers of Americans are collecting unemployment, the economy is shrinking faster than it did in 1982, and the recession is in its second year, the Republicans are celebrating as if they’ve just won a significant victory.
Why are they toasting moderate Republicans for voting down the stimulus package and giving Rep. John Boehner a standing ovation for convincing the rest to vote the same? Do they think that taking direction from the unelected Rush Limbaugh and working against elected offi cials is a good thing?
Bitter from Republican losses in two election cycles, Limbaugh is using his brand of slash-and-burn commentary to take down the two-week-old Obama administration. We haven’t even begun to clean up the messes that he and his party have left behind, and here he goes again! For 12 years Limbaugh used his nationally syndicated radio show to carry water for the Republicans as they looted our Treasury, closed their eyes to violations of the Constitution and trashed our foreign policy. All of this without any acknowledgment of blame or apology.
Now that they are on the outside looking in, all we get is obstruction and whining, name-calling and race-baiting disguised as satire. Enough. I say we allow the president try to fix this mess before we land in a fullblown depression.
The Republicans have another shot at bipartisanship, I hope they take it. As for apologies, we may have to wait.

Yvonne you're a good little comrade but it's obvious that you don't follow the news. The Republicans never had a chance to have any input in the stimulus package and in the words of Queen Pelo, we won the election and we'll do what we want. The Democrats rammed this stimulus thru Congress and if it blows up in their faces for once maybe they will have to accept responsibility for their mistakes and stop blaming Bush, Rush, Hannity, and anyone else that they can think of for the failure of the stimulus. It's funny that the Democrats own study shows that the stimulus won't work and in the long run may even make things worse.

Boy, did you notice they're giving a whole lotta credit to one media person for "attempting to bring down the two week old administration".  If one person can do that, if it's that fragile, if they're that thin skinned, they should be scared.

Obama doesn't like any criticism from anyone, I think he's in for a rough 4 years trying to deal with the economy, terrorists, Russia, Pakistan, and all the other problems that are starting to rear their ugly heads.

CBO: Obama stimulus harmful over long haul

President Barack Obama speaks to the House Democratic Issues Conference on Thursday in Williamsburg. Associated Press

President Obama's economic recovery package will actually hurt the economy more in the long run than if he were to do nothing, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.

CBO, the official scorekeepers for legislation, said the House and Senate bills will help in the short term but result in so much government debt that within a few years they would crowd out private investment, actually leading to a lower Gross Domestic Product over the next 10 years than if the government had done nothing.

CBO estimates that by 2019 the Senate legislation would reduce GDP by 0.1 percent to 0.3 percent on net. [The House bill] would have similar long-run effects, CBO said in a letter to Sen. Judd Gregg, New Hampshire Republican, who was tapped by Mr. Obama on Tuesday to be Commerce Secretary.

The House last week passed a bill totaling about $820 billion while the Senate is working on a proposal reaching about $900 billion in spending increases and tax cuts.

But Republicans and some moderate Democrats have balked at the size of the bill and at some of the spending items included in it, arguing they won't produce immediate jobs, which is the stated goal of the bill.

The budget office had previously estimated service the debt due to the new spending could add hundreds of millions of dollars to the cost of the bill -- forcing the crowd-out.

CBOs basic assumption is that, in the long run, each dollar of additional debt crowds out about a third of a dollars worth of private domestic capital, CBO said in its letter.

CBO said there is no crowding out in the short term, so the plan would succeed in boosting growth in 2009 and 2010.

The agency projected the Senate bill would produce between 1.4 percent and 4.1 percent higher growth in 2009 than if there was no action. For 2010, the plan would boost growth by 1.2 percent to 3.6 percent.

CBO did project the bill would create jobs, though by 2011 the effects would be minuscule.

Obama is doing an excellent job of bringing himself down sans Rush. Have you heard his press secretary? Umm, ahh, huh-the worst ever. 5 nominees with tax "issues". Richardson with bigger "issues". His Governor Blago the first impeached from Illinois. When Hillary Clinton is your cleanest appointment you've got a problem.

The worst part is that President Obama continues the campaign rhetoric. The "pokulus" bill has only 5% infrastructure repair with Billions for Acorn and other do nothings. Obama must listen to the Democratic Congressional Budget Office stop pushing this turkey and quit the hysteria. Recessions are a normal part of the business cycle and average 18 months. Stop worsening it and passing debt onto our grandchildren.

Bush's administration pushed through the first $700 Billion. Obama campaigned on 'change'. HARDLY!!! His administation is spending just as the last!

I don't think obama knows much about economics. Like I have saId all along, obama is in way over his head. He was 'selected' by the media, and won the hearts of the americans by his excellent mastering of the Engish language.

Bush didn't know much about economics either. He was de-selected by the media and lost the hearts of the americans by his lack of the English language.

If the only stories that people see in the paper and on a number of TV stations is  nothing but doom and gloom about a president and nothing but praise about the liberal democratic candidate people start to believe what they see and hear unless they take the time to become informed. Most people won't do that and the proof was the exit poll questions that were asked to the people who voted for Obama, they didn't know anything about his agenda, his running mates, or his past policies. The only thing they heard was that Obama was going to give them money, pay their mortgage, and put gas in their cars. The truth be known we the people didn't have much of a choice in the last election as McCain wasn't that great of a pick either.

If that happens there will be no NBC, MSNBC, CNN, and then the liberals will all be guilty of passing a law against freedom of speech, it will be ruled unconstitutional by the courts.
