New York suffers 11th-worst job loss
The Business Review (Albany)

A new federal report says that New York lost 32,700 jobs during the past year. But it was far from alone, as more than two-thirds of all states suffered declines.

Nonfarm employment in New York dropped from 8.87 million jobs in November 2007 to 8.84 million in the same month this year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That decline of 32,700 jobs ranks as the 11th-worst in the nation.

Florida was hit with the worst drop, losing 202,600 jobs between November 2007 and November 2008. Also experiencing six-figures losses were California (down 137,100 jobs) and Michigan (down 114,000).

Thirty-six states lost jobs during the past year, while 14 and the District of Columbia registered increases. Texas had by far the largest gain, picking up 222,900 jobs. Oklahoma was a distant second with an increase of 17,500.

The following is a list of states according to job growth or losses from November 2007 to November 2008:...................http://albany.bizjournals.com/albany/stories/2008/12/22/daily2.html?page=1
