bumblethru...First I dont want to pay that high tax....i have seen in this area taxes go from 5500 to 10 and 11,000....Rotterdam junction..on the river. The rest of the junction is a wreck. They do a terrible job of plowing, no sewers, no lights on the street...I guess I could go on and on, but why bother. I have been a resident for over 20 years and really like the people...not the politics or the Taxes

I am in full agreement with you. But the jct has been neglected for decades, along with other areas of this town. Sewers have not gone in to many areas because the residents have voted them down. Why? They didn't want to pay for them. If they don't, who will? Every municipality in this country are suffering from the same increases in the essential services alone! Take a close look at Rotterdam's budget to see where your town tax dollar is going.Where should we cut back or eliminate? http://www.rotterdamny.org/pdf/2009AdoptedTownBudget.pdf

And don't look solely to the town of Rotterdam for tax issues. Have you ever attended a school budget meeting? Or a county legislature meeting? The county just raised us 9%!! They are killing us!! Along with the Metroplex.

I really do agree with you biag, but it took decades to get us into this mess, and now with the economic downturn and federal and state cutbacks, it will be a very long time to see any substantial improvement, but we are guaranteed those tax increases.

Basically...All levels of government do NOT know how to cut spending. I feel your pain biag, and so do many others!!  IMHO

I think Bob Godloseski KNOWS who is responsible but doesn't want to hurt his fellow democrat former assessor. Too bad he isn't calling for firing him. OH GEEZ- that's RIGHT, although he was HIRED by the democrats and screwed this up, he was FIRED by the republicans!!! OK, issue resolved.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

IMHO......this is a mess....and the generations before are to blame......having said that who in the 'new generation' is able to "cut loose".........
it's a credit card that has come up for full payment......I just hope all those folks involved in the past with GE and all the other big businesses are
enjoying their retirements......

I cant say the rest......

Well, in the mail today, I got my tax bill.  The one that was stamped paid 15 days ago...

First line,
Nys & Fed Mandates
Total Tax Levy $17,382,231.00
% change from Prior Year Levy 29.80%
Tax rate $7.3198

The amount I'm paying to the County State and Federal Mandates is larger than the total amount I'm paying to the town, which includes
Town Tax
Highway Tax
Election tax (which for some reason itself went up 75.70%, but at a total cost to me of $12.40 can be overlooked for the moment...)
Water District
Fire District
Consolidated Lights
...and oh yeah, they socked me good because I forgot to hand over my $15 for water last year.  For anyone that thought of not paying it, the $15 for Water District 5 (I think that's the one I'm in), it almost doubles up to $27.50.  Guess I'll make sure to get over and see Dawn Pasquariello in June.

The County bill comes in at about 58% of the total bill, 42% more taxes paid at the county NYS & Federal Mandates level than at the town level.

I don't blame either of them.  Definately not John Mertz.  Maybe Steve's office should have made sure the right number was sent, but it's not as if he's supposed to do and review everything that happens in town.  That's why there's responsibility.

Exactly WHAT does Rotterdam get for the tax monies we give to the county?

Is it a tax error or a refusal of 'paying to play'?????

MERTZ SAID THIS WAS ALL MAZEKAS FAULT AT A RECENT TOWN BOARD MEETING AND THAT TOMMASONE OR ANYONE ELSE ON THE BOARD HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS ERROR.  MAZEKA + GODLEWSKI WANT YOU ALL TO BELIEVE THERE WAS SOME ORCHESTRATED CONSPIRACY.  THIS MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL.  WHY WOULD THEY WANT THE TAX RATE HIGHER?  TO HURT WHO?  GET REAL.  THIS WAS MAZEKA'S PARTING BULLET TO THE TOWN WHICH PAID HIM FOR YEARS TO DO NOTHING BUT BE PAOLINO'S AND THE COUNTY DEM TOOL TO PUSH THROUGH THE REVALUATION.  AS FAR AS BOB G GOES  THE CONSERVATIVES AT THE LINCOLN DINNER SAID HE'S LOOKING TO RUN AGAINST TOMMASONE SO THERE'S HIS REASONS FOR LYING.  THAT'S THE DEMO M.O.  ALSO, I HEARD THAT NEITHER MERTZ OR SUHRADA WAS AT THE DINNER.  MAYBE THEY WERE AT THE COUNTY MEETING.  ANYBODY KNOW.  I HEARD TONIGHT THAT MERTZ MIGHT RUN FOR SUHRADA'S SEAT.

I don't know why you haven't been doing that right along. Other people get reimbursed for 'mailbox plowing'.

The town had to replace 4 mailboxes on our street that were damaged by a town plow clearing heavy wet snow off the road.
