Let's all remember this when Mr. 'turncoat' Constantine actually 'runs' for this position in the next election. Mr. 'turncoat', must be a proven puppet, otherwise he wouldn't even be a consideration.
On the flip side, it does prove how pathetic the reps are. The dems are growing in power and the reps are YET to come forthwith a new vision, plan or platform.
Looks like 'we the people' must take control here!!!!!

You got that right. And I hope that you will come out and help us start fighting back. This will just be one of MANY fights that are going to need to be taken on. The sooner the better on these things, too. Don't know how long I can afford the new "change."
Our newly elected Highway Supt. did the same thing. He was a Republican and a Committee man, when the Republicans rejected him for endorsement of the position (knowing how horrible he would be) he went to the Dems. Definately indicates a lack of conviction as well as principle if you ask me.
Constantine just sold his sole and became another robot for the Dem machine IMHO.
Wait! He got rid of the bottom of his FOOT? How much did he get for a smelly sole? That is terrible! hah
Actually, he must just be a hack, with no sense of what he believes in. he should win in a landslid.

SCHENECTADY COUNTY Sheriff candidate changes party BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter
Retired police detective Thomas P. Constantine changed his party enrollment to Democrat this week to boost his chance of succeeding longtime Schenectady County Sheriff Harry Buffardi. Constantine, 46, said Friday he changed his enrollment from Republican after Democratic Party leaders showed interest in his bid to succeed Buffardi. “There was some interest from elected officials,” Constantine said. He made the change based on that interest, he said. He filed his enrollment change Tuesday with the Schenectady County Board of Elections. It does not become official until after the November general election. Democratic Gov. David Paterson will make the appointment to succeed Buffardi and is expected to listen to a recommendation from local Democrats, who control the Schenectady County Legislature, City Council and other top county positions. Buffardi, a Democrat, took a full-time job as assistant professor at Schenectady County Community College. He has not set a date for his resignation as sheriff. He is expected to begin teaching classes in criminal justice Jan. 12. He has taught criminal justice part time at the college for 14 years, he said. Tom Buchanan, chairman of the Schenectady County Republican Committee, denounced Constantine’s party switch. “It is a shame because he has been a lifelong Republican. I have to question what type of independence is he giving up in return for his appointment,” he said. Schenectady County Democrat Committee Chairman Brian Quail said many Democratic Party leaders support Constantine for the sheriff’s position. Whoever is selected for the position will have to run for election to a full four-year term either in November or in November 2010, depending on when Buffardi formally resigns. Buffardi said he will file retirement paperwork with the state Tuesday and will have a better idea then when he can step down. “It takes a minimum of 30 days to process the retirement papers and a maximum of 60 days,” he said. Buffardi will be paid $39,000 as an assistant professor, a step above instructor. As sheriff, he was paid more than $84,000 last year. He said he plans to draw his pension, which is worth 72 percent of his salary, to supplement his college pay. Buffardi said Undersheriff Gordon Pollard can serve as acting sheriff until Paterson names a replacement, so conceivably Buffardi can teach full time and remain sheriff. Quail said the process to vet a candidate for sheriff will accelerate once Buffardi files his paperwork. “Things will begin after that. We will have a process and we will move forward, but we are not prejudging the process,” Quail said. Quail said Constantine is a good candidate for sheriff. “He has a strong personal ethic and a strong work ethic and he has experience.” Quail said he has spoken with Constantine about the position. Quail would not say whether Democrats are considering other candidates. Tim Bradt, chief deputy in charge of internal investigations in the sheriff’s department, was interested in succeeding Buffardi but has since removed his name from consideration, Buffardi said. “He does not want to be part of the process,” Buffardi said. Bradt was not available for comment. In an earlier news story, Bradt said he had submitted his resume to county Democrats for consideration by the governor. Constantine said he has always been interested in being sheriff but never ran for the office because Buffardi was doing a good job. “There was some interest in the past while I was active with the Niskayuna Police Department, but I wanted to finish my career with Niskayuna. It was not the time and place to run against an incumbent who was doing a decent job,” he said. Constantine has never run for political office. He retired in 2007 as a detective sergeant from the Niskayuna force after 20 years. He currently works as a consultant with Red Kap Sales. He lives in Niskayuna, is married and has three children. Constantine said he decided to seek the position when Buffardi announced he would step down midway into his third term and after he received calls of interest. “It is a tough position to turn down. I still have a passion for law enforcement and community service,” he said. Constantine’s name surfaced quickly in political circles after Buffardi announced late in December he would resign as sheriff. One reason is his name recognition. His father, Tom Constantine, is a former head of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and a former superintendent of the state police. Constantine acknowledged the impact of his father’s name, but said he is his own man with his own solid credentials in law enforcement. He added his father is staying out of the matter completely. “It has been tough for me in law enforcement having the same name, which is why.................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....amp;EntityId=Ar00905
there must of been a deal struck. Too bad he sullied his name like that and jumped into bed with Savage. What a sham...and a shame.

This just goes to prove how corrupt our government is. So you mean to tell me that even if the best qualified were a republican, they wouldn't get it because they belong to the 'wrong' political party????
Isn't that like not choosing a person because they are black, female, Jewish....or whatever? This is clearly discrimination at it's finest folks!!! And yet, pathetically, there is no 'outrage'!!!
So let me see if I got this right.....It's okay for the government/politicians to discriminate but not anyone else? So the sheople just sit around and believe....'that's just politics'. And then leave it at that? I'm speechless!!

Constantine, 46, said today he changed his enrollment from Republican after Democratic Party leaders showed interest in his bid to succeed Buffardi.
“There was some interest from elected officials. I did it more out of loyalty based to them, based on their interest to me,” Constantine said.
So is Constantine implying that if he DIDN'T switch parties, he wouldn't get the position?

I suspect that Constantine may have been "prompted" to change his party affiliation and that he didn't do so based solely on his own calculations of the chances of selection as a registered Republican versus as a Democrat.
turncoat or not....it just proves one thing.......
..............those who control the guns control the masses and those who control the $$ control the masses........
dont be so short sighted......where is it on this forum of government raised up army for civil purposes????? This is a fight for power of sorts..... those who throw their hat into the ring are looking for a good seat.....
....you can pick your seat, you can pick your friends, but--you cant pick your friends seat
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
Well perhaps the guy thought it was applying for a job to be sheriff, which I heard was promised to him, and he was told he had to switch parties to get the job. Now it looks like he will not be getting it, so he is out in the cold. I guess he could still run as a republican now, or an independent, but a lot of folks might not forgive the party enrollment switch.
Pretty simple. Let it be a lesson to all of those good folks who think they can trust Sue Savage to come through on a promise! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
And to make matters worse, I heard the guy actually quit his job the other day too, just so he could take that sheriff job that was promised to him. Reagan said something once, I think it was " Trust but verify." Constantine should have listened to Reagan more, and Clinton less, if he wanted to understand reality and how things are in a cruel, cruel world.
