ROTTERDAM ‘Extreme Trains’ to feature Railex Show will track freight from Washington to Rotterdam

Railex trains are easily visible during their 12-state haul from coast to coast, but never has the service drawn the attention of a nationally televised program. That will change tonight when the History Channel features a program following a Railex train as it moves from Wallula, Wash., to the company’s East Coast terminus in Rotterdam. The company’s operations will be the subject of the hourlong Extreme Trains episode titled “The Ice Cold Express” airing at 10 p.m. today, according to the History Channel’s Web site. Paul Esposito, the vice president of sales and logistics for Railex, said the episode will offer an inside look of how the company teamed with Union Pacific to move food across the country in less than five days. The program was filmed in late June and features the various techniques the company uses to keep produce fresh during its 3,000-mile journey across country. “They follow it from tree to plate,” he said. Extreme Trains hit the airwaves last month on the inner workings of railroads, along with the diffi - cult conditions many work under to keep them running. In addition to featuring existing railroad services, the program examines how trains have helped shape American history. The program’s producers contacted Union Pacific last spring looking to do a feature on Class I freight operations.
