Our informative friend, David Giacalone sent me an email saying that he just learned today that Bob Eckstein, who ran the Snowman Contest that featured The Great Rotterdam Snowman back in March, will be
in town on Dec. 7, doing a presentation with slides of his book, The History of the Snowman, followed by a book-signing at The Open Door Sunday, 11/30/08. He will also be on the Joe Gallagher Show tomorrow (Sunday) on WGY morning at 9:15.

SNOWMAN HISTORY
    SCHENECTADY — Curious about where the snowman originated?
    Bob Eckstein may have your answer. The author of “The History of the Snowman” will be speaking at the central branch of the Schenectady County Library at 1 p.m. Sunday.
    Eckstein, a cartoonist for The New Yorker, will give a presentation about his work and then conduct a book signing. He achieved local acclaim last year with his blog, www.historyofthesnowman. com, which featured a whimsical monthly contest for the best snowman.
    The Great Snowman of Rotterdam, a nearly 12-foot behemoth, won the contest in February. The snowman tallied 874 votes.
