With the conclusion of the 2008 elections, the beginning of the 2009 election season has started. I am interested in who each of us believes would make a good representative of his/her constituents and the office for which the person should campaign.
I will begin with a few of my own suggestions.
Rene Merrihew(present Supervisor of the Town of Duanesburg) - despite Rene's consistent responses that she has no interest in running for District 4 seat to the Schenectady County Legislature, I believe that she would make an excellent county legislator as she has exhibited, through her steady leadership and her selfless actions, her genuine and heartfelt concern for her constituents.
Carolina Lazzari (former District 4 Schenectady County Legislator) - defeated in 2007 campaign reelection by unscrupulous and unprofessional actions of her opponents, Carolina was an excellent representative of the people. A resident of Rotterdam, she often attended Town of Duanesburg Board meetings and many community events in town. Carolina supports those in law enforcement and the fire departments. I would like to see her campaign again for District 4 Schenectady County Legislature.
Bill Sherman - ran for Schenectady County Legislature in 2005 and was defeated. Bill is a conservative voice on fiscal and social issues. He is an intelligent and sincere person with ethics and values. I would support him if he ran for Schenectady County Legislature - District IV.
Pat Zollinger - Administrator of the Schenectady Forum. Pat has been a watchdog for the residents and taxpayers of the City of Schenectady and of Schenectady County. She has conservative views. Pat has influenced changes in areas of government accountability (e.g., taping of the City Council meetings) and has challenged politicians re: fiscal responsibility (e.g., Mayor Stratton's proposed 2009 raise). Pat would be an asset in either City or County government.
It's your turn. Who do you think would make a good representative and why?

I understand that there are several other individuals, not named above, who are considering a run for District 4 County Legislature in 2009. I am not at liberty to disclose their names at this time. However, I believe several of them to be fiscal conservatives with one or more being members of the Conservative Party.
This doesn't include Pascarella, who has been rumored to be considering a run with Godlewski as his running mate on the Democratic and Conservative party lines. This may be a plausible scenario if indeed Judy D. is not planning to campaign for reelection as has been reported in other threads on this forum.

Anyone have any suggestions for individuals to run for election to the County Legislature from the other legislative districts (1,2, and 3)? |

Bumble, A rumor that I heard from several sources is that Pascarella is planning a run for District 4 County Legislature. As the (unsubstantiated) rumor goes, he and Godlewski look to run on the Democratic and Conservative party lines. There have been many other names mentioned as contenders across all party lines. I would think that we should know in the coming few months who the endorsed candidates are. I imagine that conversations are already in progress. Just reporting what I've heard w/ no verification of any of it. |

Democratic/conservative....they just don't go together. Bob 'no change' Godlewski is as far from being a conservative as Savage and the bunch is. If 'no change' gets the conserv line, than everyone was right about our present locally run conserv party. I personally think they, the conservs, will throw Joey 'abstain' Guidarelli in the ring! Even though Mr. 'abstain' is a conserv, he is not a great choice either. As far as Pat Zollinger, she is much more effective 'out' of the political arena. |

Personally, I don't know specifically who I think should be in the running for this, but we DESPERATELY need some fiscal Conservatives. What I would really LIKE to see in the end is for equal representation for the people from district 4. Looking at population, my personal view is that this, being broken up on a seat-by-seat basis, I would like to see 2 Rotterdam residents, along with a resident of Princetown and a resident of Mariaville. Now, I know that Mariaville is thrown in as a part of Duanesburg, so that may give them an extra seat, but I would think that it would be better for people in the county to have people from each area representing that specific area, almost like breaking it down into separate districts per seat. |

I think we should focus more on a board of supervisors and forget the county legislatures. Then and only then will each townbe represented fairly. |

I would agree that the abolishment of the Schenectady County Legislature in favor of a Board of Supervisors is preferable. May want to focus on electing more responsible (to the public) representatives to the Legislature while simultaneously working to change the form of county government. |

I think you really nailed it, LNJ. In case one way doesn't work, you have to keep working towards the other. |
