Officials: Sen. Clinton eyed as secretary of state Officials say Sen. Hillary Clinton among candidates Obama considering for secretary of state By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Last updated: 3:45 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2008
CHICAGO -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is among the candidates that President-elect Barack Obama is considering for secretary of state, according to two Democratic officials in close contact with the Obama transition team. Clinton, the former first lady who pushed Obama hard for the Democratic presidential nomination, was rumored to be a contender for the job last week, but the talk died down as party activists questioned whether she was best-suited to be the nation's top diplomat in an Obama administration. ..............http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=739449

Wow...Hillary for Sec. of State. That will position her well for 2012 when she runs against Palin, huh? |

You're assuming that Obama won't run for re-election in 2012?
Hillary's next chance will be in 2016 if she is still in the favor with her party. |

I'd rather her be in that position, if a position is necessary/warranted at all, than a sitting justice on the SCOTUS, which is a very real possibility - she's got the credentials, and probably enough support to be confirmed |

And along the same lines as MT, I think now would be a good time to have her go. In fact, even though we do have a Democrat in the Governorship who would appoint her replacement for the rest of her term, that Democrat has been seen to have a bit of a conservative side, especially right now with fighting for the budget cuts that he knows needs to be made. If Hillary were to step down right now, he may send someone down to D.C. who would make sure that the Feds aren't pushing extra bills on to the state, therefore costing the people of N.Y. more money that we don't have. |

Yeesh..can't the O-man find anyone better than who has been mentioned so far? First it was that louse John Kerry, now Hillary. Puh-leeze! Someone save us from this idiocy! While I understand and agree with the sentiments posted (mainly getting Hillary out of NY), what sort of damage will she create on the international stage, and can we really afford it? |

Liberalism = Big government = High taxes.
It does not matter who he picks. It will be a dem and a dem that will mesh with other countries and mesh our country with all of the others. I think that is called 'one world order'. A statement once made by President George Bush I (R).

Actually I think that GHW Bush called it the "New World Order" back in 1991-92. Not the greatest reference, which has been chomped down on by every liberal conspiracy nit out there. |

No no no----Not new world order.....the new word is Transparency......How do we attain that folks????? The same way some folks want those pesky illegal immigrants outed.....step #1 they must prove who is NOT an illegal alien and is a legal resident..... step #2--preventing corporate/wallstreet/credit/investment/selling fraud.....have access to ALL MONIES, here or abroad in everyones account via, direct deposit,ATM,Credit cards,Drivers license/Real ID.....step#3---what any well seasoned capitalist/politco is trained well to do---sell sell sell sell.... advertise advertise advertise.......
So the senate hearings will come up with this BIG PLAN(new deal) that will appear to help and send out more damn checks of useless amounts.... then come to the conclusion (for the folks who say dont do it) that transparency is the only way to prevent predatory lending(not a real issue, how about 'lack of education') and big bonuses etc......
My question is---Who gets to be the wizard of OZ......... |

Obama plans to nominate Clinton for top diplomat
By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer 26 mins ago
WASHINGTON – President-elect Barack Obama plans to nominate Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state after Thanksgiving, a new milestone for the former first lady and a convergence of two political forces who fought hard for the presidency. One week after the former primary rivals met secretly to discuss the idea of Clinton becoming the nation's top diplomat, an Obama adviser said Thursday that the two sides were moving quickly toward making it a reality, barring any unforeseen problems. The senior adviser, speaking on condition of anonymity because the president-elect is not prepared to officially announce the nomination, said Obama believes Clinton would bring instant stature and credibility to U.S. diplomatic relations. Obama is convinced the advantages of Clinton serving far outweighed potential downsides, the adviser said. Transition aides said the two camps have worked out financial disclosure issues involving Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton, and the complicated international funding of his foundation that operates in more than 40 countries. The aides said Obama and Hillary Clinton have had substantive conversations about the secretary of state job. Clinton has been mulling the post for several days, but the comments from the transition aides suggested that Obama's team does not feel she is inclined to turn it down. Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines would not comment, except to say that anything about Cabinet appointments is for Obama's transition team to address. Clinton would have to surrender her New York Senate seat, which she has held for eight years, to take the job. The nomination would be a remarkable union between the former first lady who was an early favorite to win the presidency and the first-term senator who upset her in the primary and cruised to a general election victory. Such a high-profile seat in the Cabinet for Clinton also would be another achievement for the most accomplished former first lady in U.S. history, who has been the first presidential spouse to serve in the Senate and run for the White House herself. Obama was picking other Cabinet posts as well. Obama has informally selected Washington lawyer Eric Holder as attorney general and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle as health secretary and is likely to choose Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano to be secretary of homeland security, Democrats said. Any of the plans could be sidetracked by unexpected glitches in the final vetting process, officials note....... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081121/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama_cabinet

Bush's administration did so much damage, (sorry to say). Both to the economy and the world issues. However, the dems just inherited a HUGE deficit and a war that 'won't quit', no matter what they try to do. Oil/energy will be another huge undertaking. Not to mention this deep recession we are in and the massive unemployment rate.
And a stock market that all but crashed entirely coupled with homes foreclosing everywhere!!! It not only won't be easy to remedy all of the above, it clearly won't be remedied in 8 years! |
