Two men, who officials describe as neo-Nazis, have appeared in a US court accused of plotting to kill Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

While I'm perfectly content with picking candidates apart, my problem with trash-talking them is that it opens the door for mindless vermin like these to believe in the things they wish to do.  If nothing else, this opens wide the 'racism' door to the campaign now, for whoever wishes to use it, and that's not good.

...then I suppose it will illegal to criticize "the One" but you can hang effigies of republicans dead by their necks in Hollywood and it will be glorified as art as was "The Piss Christ."

I see where you are going with this. It is the republicans fault, always, ever time, until like the Nazis they are declared an outlaw organization, and all of us will need government and church sponsored de-conservatizing. I follow you "Ockham." I have seen your dream world of utopia before, about 50 years ago in the former Soviet Republic. How did that work for you then? How did it work for you when it was you they were coming for, even though you were part of the ruling class, and there couldn't possibly be a reason why you would end up in the gulag? There was this thing, which I know is unfashionable, and was denigrated by "The One" as being the fundamental flaw of America. It was called The Constitution. And the little amendment in the beginning called the First, happened to be designed to spell out our GOD given right of free political speech (AHH! That's right it is not the Church or the government that gives us the rights, it is God) not porn and filth, which as an Obamite you have no problem with I am certain.

So before you start suggesting how to limit political speech, I suggest you go and invest in a copy of the Federalist Papers, and the good ole' Constitution and see what our founding dead white guys put their life on the line for. you might be surprised that it wasn't so that rappers and porn directors could open the valves on the sewer and drown us and our children in filth 24/7/365 on each and every media outlet.

As to the point of crazy idiots who talk trash and think about doing something as extreme as killing, they are all over the place. These two morons got caught. Their value system was not reinforced by the heritage Foundation or National Review, or the RNC. You will find all of the assassinations of our presidents have always been committed by crazed leftists, anarchists and other insane people. These two had no more in common with registered republicans then Oswald had with Goldwater. This is a forum that values free speech. Please respect the institution of free speech as a treasured tenant of our Anglo-Saxon heritage. Don't suggest that political speech has any bearing on what some lowlife dreams up in his bedroom while high on pot in front of the computer screen. They had no real plan, they no means of doing it and succeeding, and even the ATF admits that. It was trash talk.

God forbid a real plot ever occurs or is put into motion and you will see an organized group of terrorists behind it, not idiotic young punks who think because they heard on TV it would be OK to hurt someone.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

I received this in my email. There are probably some that would take offense, thinking it is just mixing church and state....

God we ask that You take our Nation into Your loving care, reach into the Hearts of the electorate, and give them the strength and enlightenment to know Your Will, and to exercise Your Will in their vote.

Graham, you really need to get back on your meds.  For the record, you'll never follow me, and certainly have no concept of what my dream world is all about.  From your post I'm fairly certain you wouldn't grasp it, and I certainly wouldn't force it upon you - it's the world I want for me and intrudes on no one else's until attempts to force-feed begin - kinda like you just did.  Like someone else here, you claim prescience you have only a fool's right to.

On the other hand, it is good to run into someone else who has read the Federalist Papers and knows them, and the Anti-Federalist papers as well, one might assume? One point you might clear up, or at least share your opinion of is whether the bi-cameral legislature proposed as the supreme arm of congress is a valid concept, or is it “most excellently adapted to counterbalance the great and apparently dangerous concessions made to the plebeians...” as argued?  What’s your take on the issue(s)?

I look forward to the discussion!

that is correct Okham they do need to get rid of these repubs who want to hurt the people and call for the violence. Over there on the other side this kind of thing is illegal and you cant do what the repubs do at the rallies calling out to shoot em or kill em. We need to do away with it altogether and if the repubs want to be violent like this here and what they do to Biden and them then they should go to jail with the other criminals. I have watched the level of the violnce go up this year and there are a lot of racists there in the repubs who want to shout out and say this stuff and no0w look what happened. these repubs around here are very dangerous to America now which is to bad

Sel, I certainly don't agree with all of that either.  I don't have specific issue with the GOP, or even conservatives.  I do, however, believe that incendiary talk can be the beginning of bad things, and don't find it necessary, appealing, or in any way convincing.

Rome’s working class, the plebeians had little individual power. Grouped together, however, they became a Roman mob and had to be handled carefully.

By the first century AD, plebeians comprised a formal class, which held its own meetings, elected its own officials and kept its own records. The term plebeian referred to all free Roman citizens who were not members of the patrician, senatorial or equestrian classes.

Working class heroes

Plebeians were average working citizens of Rome – farmers, bakers, builders or craftsmen – who worked hard to support their families and pay their taxes. Over the course of this period, early forms of public welfare were established by Titus and Trajan and, in difficult times, plebeians could ask Roman administrators for help.

We know much less about daily life for the lower classes, such as plebeians. Unlike the more privileged classes, most plebeians could not write and therefore they could not record and preserve their experiences.

A glimpse of normal life

This is one reason why archeological sites like the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum are so important: they preserve the living spaces, shops, tools, and graffiti of the common people that would otherwise be lost to history.

Social climbing

Some plebeians, who were doing reasonably well, might try to save enough money to join the equestrian class. For many, however, life was a daily struggle.

But although individual plebeians had little power, there were a lot of them. In bad times, or during political unrest, there was always the risk of the Roman ‘mob’ rioting or rebelling against the upper classes.

Bread and circuses

The Emperor Augustus was well aware of this risk and was keen to keep the poorest plebeians happy enough and reasonably well fed so that they would not riot. He began the system of state bribery that the writer Juvenal described as ‘bread and circuses’.

Free grain and controlled food prices meant that plebeians could not starve, while free entertainment – such as chariot races and gladiators in amphitheaters and the Circus Maximus – meant that they would not get bored and restless. Bribery it may have been, but it often worked.
