How is it "bashing" the department to critique an elected Sheriff over a crazy scheme he devised that us taxpayers (yourself included I imagine) can't really afford? How is it "bashing" the department to expect that the road patrol should be minimal and operate in the jurisdiction of the towns it was designed to operate in? I apologize for having the number of deputies wrong. I stand corrected. Thank you. But I read in the paper that it HAS increased, and it would be natural that it would have since the deputies are to be seen in Rotterdam and the City night and day.
Don't get me wrong, I think they are good men and women doing a tough job, but we only have so many funds from the overburdened taxpayers and the exponential growth of local government is causing productive and law abiding types to vamoose while leaving behind the poor and elderly. It creates a vicious cycle to tax and spend like this without being careful. The whole house of cards could come crashing down fiscally, thereby jeopardizing all governmental institutions. Would you not agree to that?

Exactly! Look, I respect all law enforcement. What I can't respect and find it difficult to accept, is government leaders who force these and other services on the taxpayers, in towns, that don't need the service!! Plan and simple!!
And am I to understand that Rotterdam, Niskayuna and Scotia/Glenville supervisors do not have any say in this matter?Do they not have the ability given to them to oppose and opt out of a tax paid services their constituants don't want or need?

I hear there's entire troop "T" assigned to the Thruway also - do tax dollars, as well as tolls pay for those troopers?
Tax dollars pay for their training (as it does all NYSP), but not their annual salaries once assigned to Troop T. Even their retirement and benefits are paid by the T-way, not the State as long as they are part of Troop T.
THank you JRaup. What happens if they leave Troop T and go back to NYSP - does the $ they earned in the retirement fund at Troop T carry over to NYS? For instance, if they work 19 years in Troop T - and the last year they transfer to NYSP - which pension do they collect - NY or Troop T?
And, how much of NYS Taxpayer money goes to funding the NYS Thruway Authority and Troop T?
I believe that the thruway AUTHORITY gets it's funding from the taxpayers and through revenues. e.g. toll, ezpass etc...
I think!?!

From what I'm to understand, and have been told. Troop T Troopers have the same retirement/benefits as all other troopers. The only difference is who pays the "employer contributions." If a Trooper goes to a different troop, the "employer contributions" will come from the State from that time on. The retirement fund is the standard one for all NYSP, so all the contributions paid while a member of Troop T are "carried over," though that's not truly the case, as it's the same plan/fund, just a matter of changing who contributes to it. AFAIK, Troop T troopers are paid at the same scale as any other Trooper, the T-way just pays instead of the State for those on Troop T detail. There is no separate contract or retirement plan for Troop T Troopers, it's the same for all NYSP.

The T-way receives no State funds. It's all from Toll revenues. Even Federal Highways funds are minimal (in comparison not only to the State DOT but other toll roads), despite being all interstate highways.
And Ez-pass is a flippin joke in terms of revenues.
It goes without saying that all law enforcement is to be respected and held in high esteem (atleast until cause is given by a VERY few who abuse that respect) I particularly give credit to B Gage for putting his name out in this forum and correcting us when we are wrong. I don't know what your role is in the Sheriff's dept but you seem like a good guy and thank you for watching over us. Actually, I don't even know that you are with the Sheriff's dept. just my assumption I guess. If you aren't then thanks for being a law enforcement advocate.
you wanto to throw the men out of jobs and put us in danger and now you want the tickets you get to be thrown out - you gotta know the right people over here Missy

Could I impose to ask who Ron White is at the risk of sounding culturally illiterate? LOL
