we should always support Harry and the road patrol or we could all end up injured or God - forbid dead from something so please lets not be rash over here to get rid of these good boys in blue to save a few cents people and to you repubs who just want to crush them because Harry is sherriff then shame on you
Sal, we are not knocking Harry 'over here'. We just want to pay ONCE for ONE service. Leaving Duanesburg and Princetown out of the loop, who apparently have a different set of circumstances, the other towns are paying for ONE service THREE times. We are talking about 'money' here, not personal people or attacks. Just looking for a solution and lower taxes 'over here'. Got it!

What exactly needs patroling out there???? Cows, deer, skunks,,,street sign thieves, cow tippers.....????? As for Rotterdam-----they better watch that eastside border.......the locust move fast once they get a taste of the crop.......

Let me guess....................... Your position is abolish the local police departments and contract with the sheriff and state police.
Just the opposite. I already stated that Rotterdam, along with Niskayuna and Scotia/Glenville already have law enforcement that is paid by us the taxpayer. My concern was why we are paying for duplicate/triplicate services. Understand?

I think that the road patrol should be MINIMAL and patrol only in the area of Duanesburg and Princetown. There used to be about 4 officers and now there are 17 or something. Also I am glad that "Harry" didn't get his super expensive "horse patrol." Remember THAT great scheme. of course he and the rest of the democrats claimed it was going to be "FREE" (!!!!!!) Apparently another imaginary friend would be paying for all of it, and us taxpayers would have to pay nothing...sure...right...If someone didn't speak out LOUDLY against it, it would be 12 horses and 13 riders( PAID deputies who would have to have someone doing their job while they were riding), plus 4 horse trailers, the saddles, the feed, the insurance, the boarding, the vets, the supplies, etc, etc.
Back to the road patrol. Stop claiming the world will end if a few thousands of taxpayers dollars will actually be cut. I am so sick of the chicken little BS coming from the special interests.

Ok, I agree that the road patrol should continue in the towns of Duanesburg and Princetown since that is probably the only service they get for their tax dollar.. But what about the rest of the towns that already have police departments? Should they have to pay the county for a service they don't need?

From my last post to this one, I pretty much agree with all your comments. In reference to Bums post I've quoted I guess you made my point much better then I did. All I ask is for the recognition that Duanesburg has a different set of circumstances and needs then the rest of the towns. If the county and/or other towns don't want us to be a part of the county and don't want to recognize us as well as our needs then where does that leave us?
Papa, I can't speak to the research or lack there of done to establish the road patrol. I wasn't on the Town Board at the time the deal was made.
Senders, I will proudly admit that we are not exactly a crime mecca and need only basic and minimal police protection but we do still need protection. Remember the pavilion that was burnt down last year? The family earlier this year, the man who tried to kill his wife then did kill himself. We also have people who drive drunk, speed, get in car crashes just like everyone else. People who need help for other reasons too. House break ins etc.
It is my understanding that years ago the troopers from Duanesburg/Princetown had a much larger zone and a couple of years ago the zones were realigned and their primary patrol zone was changed to include the towns of Princetown and Duanesburg.
That is a fact the legislators should know and should have considered before spending millions.
Wouldn't it be a shame if the people who advocated so hard for a road patrol a few years ago never took the time to make a phone call to anyone in the NYSP to ascertain a) how many troopers, investigators, sergeants, lieutenants, senior investigators, etc are assigned to the Princetown barracks and b) what is their primary zone. The fact is that not a single call was made or study conducted. We will pay tens of millions for that mistake unfortunately.
It is possible they did have a bigger zone, but I really don't know and yes all the information you mention should have been taken into account and researched, it would be a shame if it wasn't.
I do know the barracks was located in Duanesburg up until just before I started on the board. Maybe that was when they changed the zone.

there are 9 deputies ...get your facts straight before you start bashing the department
I think that all levels of law enforcement do a great job. My only concern is that these towns Rotterdam, Niskayuna and Scotia/Glenville are paying for a service three times. I believe that the towns of Duanesburg and Princetown, clearly need some protection. That is a no brainer. But what about the rest?
No one has yet to address the issue. Is it financially and statistically proven that these 3 towns actually need 3 layers of law enforcement? If they do, than so be it! But no one has yet to address it! No bashing. Just facts and just statistics.
