Saratoga is an apple not a lemon.....they are 'topped' with folks with big bucks and big names that, let's, shall we say, move the masses with entertainment
via gambling.......comparing apples to lemons???? Schenectady used to be an apple then somehow in the DNA became a lemon....??????

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

This is an idea whose time has come -again. We used to have a Board of Supervisors and after the library disaster, SCCC music debacle and budget disgrace, it must be the first order of business in the new year.

Since the current Legislators would never abolish their double dips, it must be approved by County referendum. We should speak to Saratoga County which is the most efficient County with the lowest tax rate, that has a Board. This would be an unpaid Board of Supervisors, with one clerk of the Board and no other staff.

The current system is horrible, 6 people representing two different sections of the City? The City should have 3 seats, one picked by the Mayor, one by City Council, one elected. Each town would be represented by their Supervisor. The Hilltowns which have no current representation, would have seats under a Board of Supervisors. This would save taxpayers millions as well as be more representative.
YES...it definitely must be the first order of business JANUARY 1ST 2009! If our town supervisors ever had a chance to do something for their constituents....it would be to get us the hell out of the grips out of the county legislature and push for a Board of Supervisors.

This current government system is NOT working for us! It clearly is out of control and has lost it's ability to govern. It is the time for all town supervisors to rise to the occasion for ALL OF US!!!

Let me remind all of you that even though some may have gone to county meetings, or emailed or called the county legislatures, they never listened to us. Next stop....contact our supervisors/town boards and tell them WE want to change the way we are being governed and that we encourage and support a Board of Supervisors!!!!!

I know the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors in Schoharie and will schedule a meeting with him to gather information.

Thanks Rene. Please keep us posted on what you find out. If this does become a feasible option, I will do all that I can to help the cause.

Great News!-make sure to ask how to change back other than 2 consecutive votes by the existing do-nothing County Legislators. That will never happen. No bureaucrat votes to eliminate his/her position.

Rotterdam's Supervisor is also in support of a return to a Board of Supervisors. This is an idea who's time has come-again.

Yes, Mr. Tommasone has expressed his support for a Board of Supervisors. So now we have "2" and that's a start.

If you think this will shift the balance of power to the towns, and/or republcians, think again. Under the old system, city representatives came from the wards -- how many wards are there in the city? probably enuf to offset any gains in the burbs.

Perhaps you are correct. But the way I see it, it would remove one layer of government for the people. The present system isn't working any way. But we'll see if it is even feasible. Right now it is just gathering information.

And may I add, that I don't really care who has what power. Power and greed is what is killing us, the taxpayers at all levels of government. It would be refreshing to see our elected officials REALLY working on OUR behalf. SERVING the people. Building a better community. Cut spending. Instead of being power driven and SELF-serving. It is just out of control! And we, the taxpayers are ultimately paying the price dearly!

Newsflash: The City has abolished the ward system and has election districts just like the towns. This is not a concern. The City would get either 2 or 3 seats on a County Board, based on population, which keeps dropping because of high taxes, poor schools and record crime rates.

Democrats control the Nisky and Glenville town boards. This is not a partisan issue. This is to remove an ineffective level of government. Bet less than 10% of voters can identify all their County Legislators. The current system that weighs towards the City and does nothing for the Hilltowns must go.
