That's a lot of bucks  for a state that is going bankrupt.  I say absolutely not.

The nice thing is that the park is already there. The dock is already there, would just need some improvements for size and probably water depth. It would be no where near what the stockade dock would have cost.

And clean up the drunks. Christ, forget the dock then, will someone enforce the law so I can enjoy a park that is already there?

Another proposal that floats? They certainly think up creative ways to waste tax money. If only they'd spend 1% of their time looking for tax savings. Anywhere but the Stockade. They have enough parking and crime issues.

Most taxpayers nationwide are scrimping and hanging on to their money. Why? Because most have the common sense, that as prices rise and jobs are lost, and raises are being held back.......the last thing they should be doing is 'spending'. Instead they are cutting coupons, buying only the basics and shopping on the sale rack.

The government on the other hand continues to take our money, and more of it, and spending it on foolish things such as a place to dock this boat. And as rachel states, this will not create a revenue for the taxpayers....only posterity for the future.

They should be cutting wasteful spending to help inject some tax relief for the already overburden taxpayers, and revisit where this boat should be docked when the economy improves. Until then.........This is clearly NOT the time!!

They should place a moratorium on all new spending except for emergency services. This nonsense has got to stop!! IMHO

My TIME is worth MORE than sitting and cutting coupons and watching out for sales and traveling here and there for a few cents,,,,do they add up? sure.
but the coupons/sales dont come close to replacing MY precious time, chasing them like some monkey in a cage....I'm not some dumb animal in the wild
looking for easy kills.....

stop nickel and diming me.....GET OFF MY BACK

Most federal grants (like the one for the dock and the Onrust) requires the City/municipality/etc to PAY HALF! Also, the Erie Boulevard $14 million dollar fiasco requires the City to place funds in as well.

Apply for grants, but don't think that they are 'free' in any way, shape or form - the taxpayers will be paying for half of many projects. With a likely a tax increase to boot.

Also, these projects bring little, if anything in return to the taxpayers. There is nothing coming into the City with a dock to a free floating museum? Now if the museum charged admission and funds went to the City, well then there is some merit. Most of these grants are being applied for but the City needs to bring money INTO the City as a result. Not just another free park.

Actually - most federal or state grants require a 5 to 10% municipal payment.  The municipal share can be paid either in cash or in the value of land donated or work donated  ---- so.. for example ... the value of the improvements that will be donated to the town at the "Bonded Concrete site" can be used as the town's share when applying for grants to develop the rest of the Bicentennial Park project.

when REMS takes over ALS
the parimedics will be terminated and work for REMS
and REMS will donate all ALS fees to Parks and Rec

or

all police duties will be transfered to NYS Police along with the jobs
the chief will take over Parks and Rec at $150k/yr
and Parks and Rec will have a $5mil budget
to deal with all the little league requests
and support the concrete business in town

tippy is gonna get a new pair of shoes after that comment

Um, that would make sense if we were talking about land for the Onrust, but we're not -it's a dock. The City would have to put over $100,000 taxpayer (oh, that's City taxpayer dollars) for a dock. No park improvements mentioned. Therefore, wherever this grant goes to, it's not for land, it's taxpayer cash supporting a dock with little to no significant economic value to anyone.

Stick a fork in this stunad "plan". The Stockade/City doesn't want it, the State cannot afford it, the County can't afford it and Rotterdam can't afford it.

This reminds me of the County Tourist Centre at the Gillette House. Another tourism "plan". One million County taxpayer dollars went poof! down a rat hole and no one knows from nuthin. Everyone is hiding in the tall snow banks. Tourists will never come to this County in numbers to justify this expense.
