Brilliant letter Brad-you should have a regular op-ed column in the Gazette. Then maybe we see the last of Gary Hughes(D-MVP who ran unopposed last year!) and Metrograft Ray (who just wasted another $450,000 buying a property worth $1).

Rensselaer County announced no new County Taxes. Montgomery County announced no new County taxes. In Schenectady, political posturing and face saving press releases that the Gazette eats up with a spoon. With gas prices tumbling go back and cut every single expenditure. Cut here, cut now and cut again!

Maybe we should start a board on this site just for Brad. He could do an editorial right here once a week! What'd ya think?

Bumble, I am waiting for the revision to your post to include (tic) at the end.

I had hoped that my letters would appear in the Daily Gazette, Times Union, and other forums to which I submit them.  Because that often does not occur, I post them to this forum with the hope that others will invest the time to write letters of their own to express their opinions.  Only by doing so, will needed change come to our government and our communities.

I am not sure they'l print that there letter since I believe it to be to long in my heart. You also put to much blame on the demos over here when in fact a lot of the problem is the repubs plus Pataki who was governor when all the man-dates came out there. Good luck any how Brad

I did mean what I said! Really! NO TIC HERE! I think that we should have a board here for 'our' letters to the editor, so to say. Again...what'd ya think?

Some are looking backwards instead of forward. Yes Pataxi was a disgrace. So far the only cut to be released was panned by the Gazette Editors. Would not start with Hazmat either. There are better places to start.

The County Legislators better start cutting the City Branch Libraries, Kosiur Holiday Camp and sell the County Home. Stop posturing and start cutting.

I can not believe that you could defend this bum over here Cicero. This guy makes us all a bunch of jackasses and wastes our time and money. He doensst do his job ever and all he does is get argumentive with the demos over here and the other repubs like Ang. He isnt trying to work just critisize the demos and make fun of us. He should want to cut the taxes 50 per cent but he is against it now he even want to cut the taxes on the richest of the rich instead of us working people that are in the unions and that there. he came right out and said we should go an gamble the money to try to make a profit which may even be illegal and if the state investigated it or the F.B.I. then there might be charges for that proposal if he already hasnt done that over there. Did he do that? Is he proposing it as a law? I am waiting to know from him if he means it and if he doesnt mean it then why is he making a joke out of the work he should be doing with the other 12 legislators to cut the taxes. Joke. I have to say that he is hood -winking us when he doesnt back that law because he is sticking up for the rich and going against his district. Let the state pay for the stuff not us. Does anyone know if Surhada even pays taxes? I would like to know about that. Some one should investigate him now. I and everyone I know am outraged over here in Rotterdam

Sal, I'm gonna bite here.....do you think that if someone has more money than you or some union worker that they dont work?
and,,,your statement about letting the 'state' pay for the stuff and not us---IS pretty damn ignorant.....where do you think the 'state'
gets it's cash???? DUH,,,,,THE 'STATE' IS US......

Sal,,,,I think I should bring you some of my bathtub gin......no flu shot needed here.......

Government managers already making enough

Re Oct. 4 article, “Raises proposed for county managers”:
I can’t believe the county and city are thinking of raising property taxes to give people earning in excess of $90,000 a year pay raises.
Where in God’s good name do they think the homeowner will get the money, with the medium income in Schenectady County $40,000 a year?
I have to give $125 for a $90,000-a-year manager to get a raise? Aren’t these people aware of the high energy prices and meltdown on Wall Street?
Shame on the county and city leaders for voting for a tax increase.

And shame on any voter that doesn't dump any incumbent County Legislator that can't find significant cuts. Put silent Judy D on the top of the dump list. A majority "leader" who hasn't suggested one area to belt tighten.

Worst part they don't care. They are too busy feathering their own nest and hiring political pals to care about the sheeple. Other neighboring Counties have cut services and laid off County employees but never in Schenectady County. Here they hand out raises to the rich instead of pink slips.

I agree with you Benny, but just 'who' do we fill their positions with? First, nobody in their right mind would want to run for anything in politics. Second, and again.....who?

Ya know, we thought Amedore would make a 'major' difference. But we saw that outcome with the metroplex. Unfortunetly or fortunetly, however ya wanna look at it....Amedore will still get my vote. Ya know...the 'lesser of the two evil' thing!

If this county continues on the path it is presently on....we will surely be living in a total welfare county.

The Schenectady County Legislature will hold a special session on Oct 30th to ADOPT the 2009 Budget!

Lawmakers are also expected to pass a SEPARATE budget to fund building projects through 2014.

Last month, Kathleen Rooney proposed a $280 million Budget that would RAISE THE COUNTY PORTION of your property tax bill 13%.

Have you called your County Legislator-YET?

Ben first you dont know that Judy D is 1 very hard worker over here and she gets the things done nice and quiet with out tipping the apple cart. You will see she will come out with many good cuts over there in the county to save us millions since she has been working on this here budget very hard night and day and she doesnt need to suggest gambling or prosittution or any of the things Joe S came out with for ideas plus she will force th state over there to pay for this stuff that the repubs force down the throats of the people like the welfare. You people need to see who has the experience with the money and the system to fix things not the radicals like Joe S and Lazzari who want to cause the troubles and end the needed service like police and elderly care that the county brings to all of us each and every day in our lives. Stevie T and Mertz are on the same track and I will tell you they will be in trouble if they try these shenanigans and offer bad ideas like gambling. I know from some people that Ang will have a personal victory working with the dems to get the work done and once more Suhrad and the rest of teh repubs will look stupid with no ideas but to spend and spend and waste and waste

Republicans to offer plan to eliminate proposed Schenectady County tax hike
Monday, October 20, 2008

SCHENECTADY — Republicans are promising to slash a proposed 13 percent increase in the tax levy when the Schenectady County Legislature meets Oct. 30 to vote on the tentative $280 million budget.

Minority Leader Robert Farley, R-Glenville, said Republicans will propose amendments to slash the proposed tax levy to zero. Republicans plan to discuss their amendments this week in caucus and will submit them for review a week before the budget vote, Farley said.

He had no further comment on the amendments.

Majority Leader Gary Hughes, D-Schenectady, said Democrats had no comment on their position regarding the proposed tax levy increase.

“I am giving a lot of consideration to what the manager proposed, from what we learned in the line-by-line review during the budget sessions and from what I am hearing in the community. People are concerned about taxes,” Hughes said.

Like the Republicans, the Democrats will meet in caucus to discuss their budget amendments. Hughes said the date for the Democratic caucus has not been set.

As Democrats control the Legislature, they determine which amendments to approve.

The proposed budget cuts 50 positions from a work force of approximately 1,200, reduces programs and services and consolidates county departments.

The proposed tax levy for 2009 is $68.4 million, a 12.9 percent increase. The average homeowner would pay an extra $125 in county taxes under the tentative budget, based on a home valued at $150,000 and using an average of all tax rates in the county.

A public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 27. The Legislature must adopt a budget by Nov. 1.
