We haven't had a poll in a while. So we thought this would have our own straw poll for our choice for an ambulance service. Do we want to privatize our ambulance service with Mohawk Ambulance Service or would we rather fund our own Rotterdam Ambulance Corps?
I won't vote in this poll as it doesn't affect me. It is for the residents of the Town of Rotterdam to decide.
I must say, however, that I agree with gadfly that I don't favor the establishment of a public service entity that is supported by tax revenues if a viable private industry solution exists. I also have concerns about what will become of this organization if it is consolidated to a county level service and controlled by politicians.
I am NOT a resident of Rotterdam, but I care for family members there - who may need ambulance services as they get older, so I took the liberty of expressing my choice in the poll, Mohawk Ambulance. For the same reasons as Brad, I don't want to see a taxpayer funded organization that doesn't have STRONG controls on spending. Mohawk is a commercial venture, with trained staff and is more than capable of handling the situation. Private insurance will pay the bill - there's no need to have another taxing authority on top of already high taxes.
I am extremely wary of giving up public services, such as EMS, Fire, and Police to corporate entities. While it may "look good on the books," all too often services decline at rising costs. And in either case, be it a contracted service, or in house one, taxes will pay for it. The choice becomes if you want some desk jockey in a corporate office deciding what services the town needs, and gets, or if the town should decide for itself.
People should stop looking to government, at any level to tell them what to do, or what to offer up. People should step up and supprt thier EMS and volonteer Firefighters better than they do.
For the record, if I were to vote it would be to fix REMS and support it. I just went through and am still going through ambulance issues in Duanesburg. I know the options, I fully understand the options. This is my opinion. Might be popular, might not...but I'm never shy to offer my opinion
I wonder is Tommasone and Mertz still want to schaff all of our volunteer ambulance drivers and make it so when you call the ambulance no one comes? Hwat happened to that brilliante idea over there?

Are you kidding me "Hwat happened to that brilliante idea over there" This has to stop. Not to mention there are no volunteer ambulance people. All the positions are paid positions.
This is mostly a wasted conversation---National Health Care folks.....who wants to be the contractor for our REMS???? lucrative contract,,,considering the economic situation now we may all be brought to the hospital via horse drawn wagons.......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
I wonder how much REMS budget is. You can't get into their website to check anything. If I'm going to make a donation (as is still requested on their Princetown Road sign, requesting to send the check to the old White Eagle location), I want to have an open look at their finances.
